This finally brings to an end a two-year period without a US ambassador to Egypt. Thomas Goldberger has been chief of mission and charg\u00e9 d'affaires since Robert Beecroft left in 2017. Cohen most recently served as the US\u2019 acting UN Representative from January to September 2019. He has worked in the US Foreign Service since 1987, holding several senior posts including deputy assistant secretary of state for European and Eurasian affairs.
