{"id":589836,"date":"2023-07-10T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2023-07-10T00:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/enterpriseam.com\/egypt\/2023\/07\/10\/bank-secures-usd-250-mn-in-finance-from-ifc\/"},"modified":"2023-07-10T00:00:00","modified_gmt":"2023-07-10T00:00:00","slug":"bank-secures-usd-250-mn-in-finance-from-ifc","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/enterpriseam.com\/egypt\/2023\/07\/10\/bank-secures-usd-250-mn-in-finance-from-ifc\/","title":{"rendered":"Bank secures USD 250 mn in finance from IFC"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><span> <\/span><span style=\"font-weight:700\">Our friends at the International Finance Corporation (IFC) are lending USD 250 mn to a private sector institution<\/span><span>, giving <\/span><span>Commercial International Bank two long-term loans worth a combined USD 250 mn to finance its capital and expand its green lending activities, the bank said in <\/span><span style=\"text-decoration-skip-ink:none;-webkit-text-decoration-skip:none;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/ent.news\/2023\/7\/301.pdf\" style=\"\">a statement (pdf)<\/a><\/span><span style=\"font-weight:400;\"> yesterday.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><span style=\"font-weight:700\">The IFC is extending a 10-year Tier 2 facility worth USD 150 mn to the EGX-listed bank<\/span><span>, USD 90 mn of which will be used to refinance <\/span><span style=\"text-decoration-skip-ink:none;-webkit-text-decoration-skip:none;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cibeg.com\/en\/newsroom\/news\/ifc-cib\" style=\"\">existing debt<\/a><\/span><span style=\"font-weight:400;\"> to the corporation and the remaining USD 60 mn to support the bank\u2019s \u201csustainable growth plans.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><span style=\"font-weight:700\">Expanding green lending:<\/span><span> A second seven-year loan valued at USD 100 mn will support the bank\u2019s lending to environmentally-friendly projects <\/span><span>and MSMEs<\/span><span style=\"font-weight:400;\">. These include water treatment and efficiency, renewable energy, green buildings, and sustainable agriculture. <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><span style=\"font-weight:700\">Background: <\/span><span>The lender signed off on the loans on 26 June, according to <\/span><span style=\"text-decoration-skip-ink:none;-webkit-text-decoration-skip:none;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/disclosures.ifc.org\/project-detail\/SII\/47310\/cib-sl-subdebt\" style=\"\">its website<\/a><\/span><span>.<\/span><span> The IFC is also providing advice to the bank to help it <\/span><span style=\"text-decoration-skip-ink:none;-webkit-text-decoration-skip:none;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/c0a9c0a0-cfdd-4016-b953-55eab63cb9b4\" style=\"\">manage climate risk<\/a><\/span><span>on<\/span><span style=\"font-weight:400;\"> its
