Signed by International Cooperation Minister Rania Al Mashat and IFC Managing Director Makhtar Diop, the agreement will enable the government to receive \u201ctechnical assistance and advisory support\u201d from the IFC, which will develop a strategy for selling down state assets.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><span style=\"font-weight:700\">On the IFC to-do list<\/span><span>: The agreement will see IFC get involved in developing a strategy and implementation plan, preparing and restructuring assets ahead of sales, improving corporate governance, and implementing approved transactions, Prime Minister Moustafa <\/span><span>Madbouly <\/span><span style=\"text-decoration-skip-ink:none;-webkit-text-decoration-skip:none;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/EgyptianCabinet\/posts\/pfbid02NpG1fbQhA6c9NfPjNDS4Cv8hiydV4GDGjR6rhkGAeJ2nkw4f2TWpJbVqDstjZnuXl\" style=\"\">said<\/a><\/span><span>y<\/span><span style=\"font-weight:400;\">esterday. <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><span style=\"font-weight:700\">What\u2019s next?<\/span><span> \u201c<\/span><span style=\"font-weight:400;\">We will be closely monitoring the progress of this agreement with the prime minister's office and with Minister Rania Al Mashat because we believe in the potential of transforming the Egyptian economy and really taking it to the next level,\u201d Diop told Enterprise yesterday on the sidelines of the signing ceremony. <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><span style=\"font-weight:700\">Some USD 2 bn in the pipeline?<\/span><span>The IFC will help the government attract USD 2 bn in private investment to the country \u201cover the coming years,\u201d with some of that coming from its own funds,  Al Mashat said, without providing further details<\/span><span>.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight:400;\">\u201cWe expect to be attracting large amounts of investments including from the IFC as we intend to double our commitment for next year in support of the government\u2019s strategy,\u201d Diop told us.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><span style=\"font-weight:700\">They\u2019ve done it before, they can do it again:<\/span><span style=\"font-weight:400;\">The IFC has a history of assisting governments globally in attracting private sector investments in state assets, the statement reads, adding that it has successfully facilitated asset monetization transactions for state-owned companies in countries including Kenya, Brazil, Cameroon, and more. \u201cOur appointment as strategic advisor to support the sale and monetization of state assets will further unlock the potential of the private sector to build a sustainable, resilient, and inclusive economy for Egypt,\u201d said Diop.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><span style=\"font-weight:700\">The hope is that the agreement with Egypt can be a model <\/span><span>that can be replicated across other emerging markets, <\/span><span>Diop said. <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><span style=\"font-weight:700\">Part of a wider framework: <\/span><span>T<\/span><span>he agreement \u201cis the first operation to be signed under the recently launched 2023-2027 Country Partnership Framework with the World Bank Group, specifically supporting the government\u2019s [state-owned enterprise] reform agenda and harnessing private capital,\u201d Al Mashat said. <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><span style=\"font-weight:700\">A
