INFRASTRUCTURE-<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span>#1- MSC awarded tender for Tenth of Ramadan dry port:<\/span> A consortium led by Italy\u2019s <\/span>Mediterranean Shipping<\/a><\/span>Company<\/a><\/span> (MSC) snagged the bid to establish and operate the 250-feddan Tenth of Ramadan dry port, Transport Minister Kamel El Wazir <\/span>said Thursday<\/a><\/span>, without giving further details. The dry dock aims to serve the industrial area in Badr, Ain Sokhna, East Port Said, the new capital and the Tenth of Ramadan.<\/span><\/p>\n

BACKGROUND<\/span>- Four consortiums submitted their fi<\/span>nal bids and proposals at the end of April to<\/span>build and operate the EGP 3.5 bn<\/a><\/span> dry port and logistical hub.<\/span><\/p>\n

#2- El Sisi inaugurates container terminal at Alex port:<\/span> President Abdel Fattah El <\/span>Sisi <\/span>on Thursday inaugurated the Tahya Misr multi-purpose terminal at the Alexandria Port, according to two cabinet statements (<\/span>here<\/a><\/span> and <\/span>here<\/a><\/span>). Part of a national plan to develop the country\u2019s ports, <\/span>Tahya<\/a><\/span>Misr<\/a><\/span>seeks to transform the Alexandria Port into a global trade and logistics hub and has an annual capacity of 12-15 mn tons of goods.<\/span><\/p>\n

CMA CGM is ambitious for more:<\/span> French container and shipping giant CMA CGM, which manages the terminal, hopes to operate more logistical areas and stations in other ports, CEO Rodolphe Saad\u00e9 said at the inauguration.<\/span><\/p>\n

AGRICULTURE- <\/span><\/p>\n

Kom Ombo sugar cane plant: <\/span>The government has inaugurated an EGP 300 <\/span>mn facility growing sugar cane seedlings in Aswan\u2019s Kom Ombo under the Decent Life initiative, according to an Agriculture Ministry <\/span>statement<\/a><\/span>. The plant will grow some 15 mn seedlings each year \u2014 enough to cultivate 4k acres of land.<\/span><\/p>\n

CAPITAL MARKETS-<\/span><\/p>\n

Egypt\u2019s USD bonds decline on request to join BRICS: <\/span>The price of Egypt\u2019s USD <\/span>bonds fell more than 2% on Thursday after a Russian official said the country had officially applied to <\/span>join the BRICS<\/a><\/span> alliance, <\/span>Asharq Business<\/a><\/span> reports, citing Bondblox data.<\/span><\/p>\n

Remember:<\/span> BRICS members are considering creating a common currency that will allow them to drop the greenback, while Egypt and Russia are working to <\/span>reduce the use of the USD<\/a><\/span> in bilateral trade in favor of the RUB.<\/span><\/p>\n

Al Gioshy reviving EGX listing plans? <\/span>Al Gioshy Steel wants to offer a 30% stake on <\/span>the EGX in 2024,<\/span> company chair Tarek Al Gioshy is quoted as telling <\/span>Al Borsa<\/a><\/span>. The steel manufacturer has been <\/span>considering an IPO<\/a><\/span> since at least 2019 but tough market conditions amid the pandemic saw it put the listing plans on hold. <\/span><\/p>\n

Russia to divide its SCZone industrial zone, pending approval: <\/span>Russia is waiting on <\/span>approval from MPs to divide its industrial area at the Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZone) into two parts \u2014 one near Port Said at the north end of the Canal and one to the south at Ain Sokhna \u2014 <\/span>TASS<\/a><\/span> reports citing Russian Ambassador to Cairo Georgy Borisenko.
