The EGX-listed telecom company holds a 45% stake in Vodafone Egypt. The government owns 70% of TE.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><span style=\"font-weight:700\">Talks have been stalled for months now: <\/span><span style=\"\">We\u2019ve heard little on the progress of negotiations <\/span><span style=\"\">between TE and QIA <\/span><span style=\"text-decoration-skip-ink:none;-webkit-text-decoration-skip:none;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/971f1157-db03-4f3d-8d5a-9d21e932c322\" style=\"\">since February<\/a><\/span><span style=\"\">, when talks reportedly hit a wall over how much of the company should be on the table. QIA has been eyeing Vodafone Egypt since at least <\/span><span style=\"text-decoration-skip-ink:none;-webkit-text-decoration-skip:none;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/c348db4f-7247-4ed9-a87a-4020be90920e\" style=\"\">last September<\/a><\/span><span style=\"font-weight:400;\">, when a source told us it was one of three GCC sovereign funds looking to snap up TE\u2019s stake. <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><span style=\"font-weight:700\">What\u2019s the hold up? <\/span><span style=\"\">QIA had reservations about the investment climate in Egypt, in light of <\/span><span style=\"\">current economic challenges and the weaker EGP. Representatives of the sovereign fund had held talks with the Madbouly government and the central bank to ensure the climate is fit for investment and that the state is working to improve conditions, our source tells us. The government\u2019s Supreme Investment Council recently issued <\/span><span style=\"text-decoration-skip-ink:none;-webkit-text-decoration-skip:none;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/a3816fe9-2abf-4b6c-91ce-680ea72e2d1b\" style=\"\">22 decisions<\/a><\/span><span style=\"font-weight:400;\"> aimed at putting in place a more pro-business regulatory framework and attracting more foreign investment.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><span style=\"font-weight:700\">More acquisitions to come? <\/span><span style=\"\">The Qatari fund also expressed interest in some of the <\/span><span style=\"text-decoration-skip-ink:none;-webkit-text-decoration-skip:none;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/a94808c5-7a0c-4027-a786-804f2dc35954\" style=\"\">32 state-owned companies<\/a><\/span><span style=\"font-weight:400;\"> that are part of the government\u2019s privatization plan, namely ports and firms in the oil sector, our source says. Agreements are expected to be announced before August, they added.  <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><span style=\"font-weight:700\">Potential candidates include: <\/span><span style=\"\">QIA\u2019s Maha Capital earlier this year<\/span><span style=\"\"> reportedly submitted<\/span><span style=\"\"> an <\/span><span>offer to take majority stakes in <\/span><span style=\"text-decoration-skip-ink:none;-webkit-text-decoration-skip:none;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/8d2b9979-bfbb-4862-9963-dbd2fcdc388a\" style=\"\">Damietta and Port Said container terminal operators<\/a><\/span><span> \u2014  <\/span><span style=\"text-decoration-skip-ink:none;-webkit-text-decoration-skip:none;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pscchc.com\/index.aspx?pg_lg=en\" style=\"\">Port Said Containers & Cargo Holding Company<\/a><\/span><span> and <\/span><span style=\"text-decoration-skip-ink:none;-webkit-text-decoration-skip:none;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/dchc.com.eg\/\" style=\"\">Damietta Container & Cargo Handling Company<\/a><\/span><span style=\"font-weight:400;\">. <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><span style=\"font-weight:700\">Tick, tock: <\/span><span style=\"\">The government aims to raise USD 2 bn via <\/span><span style=\"text-decoration-skip-ink:none;-webkit-text-decoration-skip:none;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/b76ec80b-bf18-47d1-bf53-07b5b9cefb8f\" style=\"\">asset sales<\/a><\/span><span style=\"\"> by the end of June.
