<\/span>Tax hikes get preliminary sign-off from House general assembly:<\/span> The House<\/span> of Representatives approved in principle a raft of tax, duty, and development fee hikes in its plenary session today, <\/span>Al Borsa<\/a><\/span> reports. The final vote has been postponed to a later session. The hikes, which have been in limbo for 18 months, were approved by the House Planning and Budgeting Committee <\/span>last week<\/a><\/span>.<\/span><\/p>\n

THE BIG STORY ABROAD<\/span><\/p>\n

Picking up from where we left off this morning, Biden and McCarthy finally reaching a<\/span> preliminary agreement over the US debt ceiling <\/span>is still leading the conversation in the international press. Their decision ends days of tense negotiations which would avoid the US defaulting \u2014 only if they are able to pass it through Congress before the US does not have money to pay its debts. McCarthy is expected to touch base with Biden today to prepare the bill for Wednesday, in light of the possible resistance from Democratic and Republican party lawmakers. <\/p>\n

HAPPENING NOW- Turkey\u2019s presidential runoff election kicked off this morning<\/span> after the<\/span> polls opened at 8am and are set to close at 5pm. Incumbent president Tayyip Erdogan is vying for a third decade in power, and had defeated rival Kemal Kilicdaroglu in the first round of elections, but failed to secure the 50% required to avoid a runoff. A survey by Pollster Konda, conducted on May 20-21 showed that Erdogan had 52.7% support, while Kilicdaroglu had 47.3% support, accounting for undecided voters. <\/span><\/p>\n
