The central bank decided to raise rates by another 25 bps during the meeting but a number of officials thought it might be the final time they would need to do so amid signs that tighter financial conditions are bringing inflation under control. <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><span style=\"font-weight:700\">Rate cuts though?<\/span><span> Bond traders are dialing back expectations that the Fed could begin to reverse its aggressive stance later this year due to sticky underlying inflationary pressures and strong economic data, the <\/span><span style=\"text-decoration-skip-ink:none;-webkit-text-decoration-skip:none;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ft.com\/content\/002edc0f-44be-43c5-9b52-99e1ae234a6b\" style=\"\">Financial Times<\/a><\/span><span> reports. Following <\/span><span style=\"text-decoration-skip-ink:none;-webkit-text-decoration-skip:none;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/dba0f3e2-9762-46ba-901a-2455cd73e3b0\" style=\"\">April\u2019s inflation figures<\/a><\/span><span style=\"font-weight:400;\"> \u2014 which dropped to their lowest level in two years of 4.9% \u2014 investors were expecting the Fed to cut interest rates to 4.2% by the end of the year but have since revised their forecast to 4.7%. <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><span style=\"font-weight:700\">Confusion is in the air: <\/span><span>\u201cIf you are feeling confused about the macro outlook, it is important to realize that you are not the only one,\u201d one analyst wrote in a note. \u201cI would not be surprised if the confusion continued for a while longer, with a global macro environment that continues to frustrate both the bulls and the bears.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><span style=\"font-weight:700;\">Also worth noting this morning: <\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight:700\">UK inflation stays sticky: <\/span><span style=\"\">Inflation came in higher than expected at 8.7% in April,<\/span><span style=\"\"> likely <\/span><span>putting the Bank of England on course to hike interest rates again in June.
