They are recurrent and are, first and foremost, all about bringing people together \u2014 to celebrate a milestone, or agree on a common goal. They help connect people and foster a sense of community: \u201c[They] help employees feel a part of something bigger, help them get energy \u2014 help them know their jobs aren\u2019t just about the tactical,\u201d says talent leader Bill Schaninger. <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><span style=\"font-weight:700\">Why they are important: <\/span><span style=\"\">Without rituals, the individual takes precedence over the group and<\/span><span style=\"font-weight:400;\"> rather than employees, the company has contractors with no genuine sense of belonging. This potentially breeds a \u201cme\u201d versus \u201cwe\u201d mentality that is not conducive to an optimal professional setting. The absence of rituals is exacerbated by two factors: The immense disruption that was the covi-19 pandemic, but also the entrance of Gen Z into the workforce \u2014 a generation that socializes differently and can sometimes favor social media communication over in-person contact.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><span style=\"font-weight:700\">The workplace without rituals:<\/span><span style=\"\"> Imagine not wishing a colleague a happy birthday, celebrating<\/span><span> a promotion, or throwing a farewell party \u2014 or having your colleagues do the same for you. This could contribute to weaker ties, according to talent leader Bryan Hacock: Weaker links with managers, colleagues, and throughout the company. This, in turn, impacts the organization\u2019s overall performance, <\/span><span>can<\/span><span style=\"font-weight:400;\"> have ill-effects on retention and individual employee\u2019s psychological welfare. While some coping strategies like \u201ccocktails over Zoom\u201d or \u201cgratitude email chains\u201d were a compromise during the pandemic, they are not the same as warmer, more tangible communication.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><span style=\"font-weight:700\">How does one form valuable rituals? <\/span><span style=\"\">While celebrating milestones and achievements is easy<\/span><span style=\"font-weight:400;\"> enough, rituals need to be inclusive and relevant so as not to feel forced. Ideally, they ought to be rooted in \u201cmindfulness and gratitude,\u201d Hancock added, in order to give people a sense of purpose. <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><span style=\"font-weight:400;\"><\/p>\n<hr style=\"height:2px;border-width:0;color:gray;background-color:gray\">\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><span style=\"font-weight:700\">Spotify weeds out the bots:<\/span><span style=\"\"> Spotify has removed tens of thousands of songs created via AI<\/span><span> music generator Boomy to clamp down on fake streams, the <\/span><span style=\"text-decoration-skip-ink:none;-webkit-text-decoration-skip:none;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ft.com\/content\/b6802c8f-50e7-4df8-8682-cca794881e30\" style=\"\">Financial Times<\/a><\/span><span style=\"font-weight:400;\"> reports. The streaming giant has taken down 7% of the tracks uploaded from Boomy, which allows users to \u201ccreate original songs in seconds\u201d that they can release to streaming platforms. \u201cArtificial streaming is a longstanding, industry-wide issue that Spotify is working to stamp out across our service,\u201d Spotify said.
