The company wants each factory to produce some 100k vehicles annually, Toyota <\/span><span>Tsusho<\/span><span style=\"font-weight:400;\">\u2019s Jun Karube is quoted as telling GAFI CEO Hossam Heiba, without giving more details. Representatives from Toyota Egypt declined to comment on the plans when we reached out yesterday.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><span style=\"font-weight:700\">We have what it takes: <\/span><span>Toyota is in part considering putting one of the factories here because we have industries that feed into the automotive industry \u2014 <\/span><span style=\"text-decoration-skip-ink:none;-webkit-text-decoration-skip:none;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/b7089f22-eb65-4418-81c1-c5fb17e42672\" style=\"\">including<\/a><\/span><span> Japanese firm Sumitomo\u2019s Tenth of Ramadan <\/span><span style=\"text-decoration-skip-ink:none;-webkit-text-decoration-skip:none;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/cc1bf114-7cbc-4dd3-981d-55f926b15983\" style=\"\">parts factory<\/a><\/span><span style=\"font-weight:400;\">, set to be the largest of its kind in the world.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><span style=\"font-weight:700\">Toyota Tsusho\u2019s mobility arm (as it now calls its automobile division) is an assembler in some 50 countries<\/span><span style=\"\">, producing passenger cars as well as commercial and industrial vehicles, <\/span><span style=\"text-decoration-skip-ink:none;-webkit-text-decoration-skip:none;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.toyota-tsusho.com\/english\/company\/business\/automotive.html\" style=\"\">its website notes<\/a><\/span><span style=\"\">. Toyota Tsusho advertises deep ties to Africa and also has a focus on infrastructure, including contracts in Egypt. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight:700\">Go deeper: <\/span><span style=\"\">Its website goes fairly deep into its plans for <\/span><span style=\"text-decoration-skip-ink:none;-webkit-text-decoration-skip:none;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.toyota-tsusho.com\/english\/company\/business\/automotive.html\" style=\"\">mobility<\/a><\/span><span style=\"\"> and <\/span><span style=\"text-decoration-skip-ink:none;-webkit-text-decoration-skip:none;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.toyota-tsusho.com\/english\/about\/project\/11.html\" style=\"\">Africa<\/a><\/span><span style=\"font-weight:400;\">. <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><span style=\"font-weight:700\">Localizing the automotive industry is a priority for policymakers, who have finally produced a range of industry incentives <\/span><span>through its soon-to-launch <\/span><span style=\"text-decoration-skip-ink:none;-webkit-text-decoration-skip:none;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/0a06d4ec-4025-490e-8842-45c8a9fe0d8a\" style=\"\">Automotive Industry Development Program (AIDP)<\/a><\/span><span>. Incentives under AIDP aim to boost<\/span><span> local assembly and component manufacturing, up the sector\u2019s competitiveness to become a regional manufacturing hub, and bolster export volumes. The strategy still needs to be shipped to the House of Representatives for approval and is expected to begin being implemented in 2H 2023, Trade and Industry Ministry sources <\/span><span style=\"text-decoration-skip-ink:none;-webkit-text-decoration-skip:none;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/f58bf2e9-4bd9-4c62-a46a-9a277f99088e\" style=\"\">told us<\/a><\/span><span style=\"font-weight:400;\">in March. <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><span style=\"font-weight:700\">Other auto projects in play:<\/span><span> Stellantis, Nissan and Al Mansour Automotive could invest a total of <\/span><span style=\"text-decoration-skip-ink:none;-webkit-text-decoration-skip:none;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/5d8901c0-74be-4bac-b18f-c911b3869c11\" style=\"\">USD 145 mn<\/a><\/span><span> in local auto assembly <\/span><span>over the next three years.
