<\/span>Super Mario Bros: The Movie<\/a><\/span> is a bona fide box office success, earning record<\/span> ticket sales<\/span> and ranking <\/span>number three on the US\u2019 biggest animated movie premieres<\/a><\/span>.<\/span>Chris Pratt, Anya Taylor-Joy, and Charlie Day lend their voices to the cult video game-turned-animated-feature-film characters Mario, Princess Peach, and Luigi, respectively. As of this week, the iconic movie has earned <\/span>upwards of a staggering USD<\/a><\/span>90<\/a><\/span>0 mn<\/a><\/span> globally and is expected to be the first feature to hit the <\/span>USD 1 bn mark in 2023<\/a><\/span>. As Mario travels through the Mushroom Kingdom, we\u2019re captivated by the beautiful colors and visual effects \u2014 and, we must add, a sizable dose of nostalgia. <\/span><\/p>\n

John Wick: Chapter 4<\/a><\/span> also premiered to much fanfare<\/span>, with raving reviews<\/span>praising Keanu Reeves on<\/span> his remarkable acting skills throughout the action franchise. The movie is so good, the \u201cthree hours fly by,\u201d one <\/span>reviewer<\/a><\/span> says. And it all makes sense: The long awaited sequel to the 2019 \u201cParabellum\u201d installment sees Wick seek out revenge against the High Table \u2014 the ultimate authority controlling his world. His path to freedom, however, is riddled with fatal dangers and unlikely alliances that push viewers to the edge of their seat.<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span>Shuggie Bain<\/a><\/span> is an intense \u2014 yet worthwhile \u2014 read, with reflections on <\/span>everything from child abuse to alcoholism.<\/span> Douglas Stuart\u2019s debut novel is no walk in the park, but it is both compelling and beautifully written \u2014 helping it earn the <\/span>Booker Prize in 2020<\/a><\/span>. Set between the early 1980s up until the onset of the 90s, the novel details how Glasgow\u2019s working class bore the brunt of former UK Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher\u2019s policies through the story of Hugh \u201cShuggie\u201d Bain, the son of proud Agnes and shameless taxi driver Shug Sr. While the political forces at play are invisible from Shuggie\u2019s family\u2019s social housing, they are nonetheless behind the devastating social consequences that are felt all too strongly by the downtrodden class. Sky-rocketting unemployment, substance abuse, and domestic violence are shadows that come out to play and shape the lives of hundreds of thousands of children and their families.<\/span><\/p>\n
