The US is pushing for a complete export ban on Russia:<\/span> G7 countries ar<\/span>e <\/span>considering a US proposal for a blanket ban on exports to Russia as western nations look to tighten the screws on the Russian economy, <\/span>the Financial Times<\/a><\/span> reports. EU and Japanese officials have distanced themselves from the idea, with one official telling the salmon-colored paper that \u201cit is simply not do-able.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Russia responds by seizing assets \u2014 and warns of more to come: <\/span>Russian <\/span>President Vladimir Putin signed a <\/span>decree<\/a><\/span> to temporarily take control of the Russia-based assets of two European utility companies, according to <\/span>Russian news agency TASS<\/a><\/span>. The Kremlin followed this up with a warning that it could take control of additional assets in response to Western sanctions on its economy, according to <\/span>Reuters<\/a><\/span>.<\/span><\/p>\n

ON A RELATED NOTE- Russia could start <\/span>closing its agreement allowing the safe export of Ukrainian grain <\/span>through the Black Sea as soon as next week, acc<\/span>ording to a letter sent from Moscow to the UN that was obtained by <\/span>Reuters<\/a><\/span>. Moscow has signaled that it will not look to extend the <\/span>agreement brokered by the UN and Turkey<\/a><\/span> last year, saying its own demands to facilitate Russian exports under the pact have not been met. <\/span><\/p>\n

Not great news for us: <\/span>The loss <\/span>of Ukrainian grain to global markets<\/span> could push up prices, potentially impacting the imports bill for Egypt \u2014 the world\u2019s largest importer of wheat \u2014 as it continues to grapple with an external financing gap. <\/span><\/p>\n

AND-<\/span>Lebanese inflation surges after deval: <\/span>Lebanon saw its inflation hit 264% y-o-y <\/span>in March after the country\u2019s first devaluation in 25 years, <\/span>Bloomberg<\/a><\/span> reports citing official data. Food prices were up more than fourfold compared with a year before, after authorities allowed the currency to weaken by more than 90% against the USD.
