They\u2019re simple, delicious, and easy to make.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><span style=\"font-weight:700;\">Ingredients for mehalabeya base:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight:400;\">2 cups milk<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight:400;\">2 cups whipping cream<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight:400;\">8 tbsp granulated sugar<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight:400;\">4 tbsp cornstarch (add more if needed)<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span>Vanilla extract to taste<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><span style=\"font-weight:700;\">Additional ingredients for tamr version:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight:400;\">200g \u2018agwa (we used Al Tahhan)<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight:400;\">Around 10 dates for the garnish<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight:400;\">Granulated sugar<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight:400;\">Cinnamon<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight:400;\">10g butter<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><span style=\"font-weight:700;\">Additional ingredients for mishmish version:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight:400;\">Dried apricots (washed and dried)<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight:400;\">1 cup water<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight:400;\">1 cup granulated sugar<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight:400;\">Vanilla extract to taste<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><span style=\"font-weight:700\">\u23f2 Cooking time:<\/span><span style=\"font-weight:400;\">10 minutes<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><span style=\"font-weight:700\">Instructions for mehalabeya bil tamr:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight:400;\">Mix all the ingredients for the mehalabeya base together in the pan before turning on the heat.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight:400;\">Let the mixture boil and simmer for a few minutes while stirring constantly.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight:400;\">Add the stick of \u2018agwa and stir until melted.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight:400;\">Once everything is combined and the mixture starts to thicken, pour out into a circular dish or into ramekins.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight:400;\">While they cool, cut up the dates into quarters and pan-sear in butter.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight:400;\">Once slightly cooled, coat the date pieces in sugar and cinnamon.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight:400;\">Add garnishes on top.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><span style=\"font-weight:700\">Instructions for mehalabeya bil mishmish:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight:400;\">Mix all the ingredients for the mehalabeya base together in the pan before turning on the heat.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight:400;\">Let the mixture boil and simmer for a few minutes while stirring constantly.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight:400;\">Once everything is combined and the mixture starts to thicken, pour out into a circular dish or into ramekins.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span>While they cool, mix a cup of water with a cup of sugar and bring to a boil.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight:400;\">Add vanilla.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight:400;\">Add the cut up pieces of dried apricot and add to the syrup.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight:400;\">Once the syrup starts to thicken, turn off the heat.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight:400;\">Once cooled, garish with the pieces of mishmish and leftover syrup.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><span style=\"font-weight:700\">If you want a richer mehalabeya, you can customize the milk-to-cream ratio as you please. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight:400;\">It can also go the other way around if you want to defeat the purpose of dessert and make it a little healthier.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><span style=\"font-weight:700;\">? Think the eponymous Yacoubian Building or the village of Macondo from Gabriel Garcia Marquez\u2019s epic 100 Years of Solitude. Powers weaves together these disparate narratives to create a sweeping epic that explores humanity's relationship with nature. <\/span><span>The book has been hailed as a game-changer in the world of environmental literature, winning the Pulitzer Prize in Fiction, the William Dean Howells Medal, and was shortlisted for the Man Booker Prize (for non-literary nerds, that\u2019s a big thing). <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><span style=\"font-weight:700\">But be warned: <\/span><span style=\"\">The book is far from a beach read, it\u2019s a hefty tome.
