The consortium w<\/span><span style=\"font-weight:400;\">ill handle the entire project for a 25-year period before transferring ownership to Giza governorate. <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><span style=\"font-weight:700\">The plant is being fast tracked: <\/span><span>The project is expected to receive a <\/span><span style=\"text-decoration-skip-ink:none;-webkit-text-decoration-skip:none;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/87652563-d0ea-4bdd-bf65-b1ccedb390f3\" style=\"\">golden license<\/a><\/span><span style=\"font-weight:400;\">. The new single approval licenses cover everything from establishing the project, land allocation and building licensing, through to operation and management. No timeline was given for when the facility is expected to come online. <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><span style=\"font-weight:700\">We have a lot of waste to spare: <\/span><span>Egypt produces up to 5 mn tons of municipal solid waste a year, Environment Minister Yasmine Fouad said. W<\/span><span style=\"font-weight:400;\">aste is the second largest source of greenhouse gas emissions in the country, making up some 13% of total emissions, she added. <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><span style=\"font-weight:700\">More to come: <\/span><span>The state has eight waste-to-energy projects worth EGP 10 bn in the pipeline, Finance Minister Mohamed Maait said. The projects will be<\/span><span> located in Alexandria, Fayoum, Giza, Gharbia, Beheira, Damietta, Menoufia, and Sharqiya and will be carried out by eight local companies.
