The factory will be built at a cost of USD 10 mn at Vacsera\u2019s Sixth of October in<\/span><span>dustrial complex. <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><span style=\"font-weight:700\">#2- Screening for genetic disorders:<\/span><span style=\"\">US diagnostics firm <\/span><span style=\"text-decoration-skip-ink:none;-webkit-text-decoration-skip:none;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.perkinelmer.com\/\" style=\"\">PerkinElmer<\/a><\/span><span style=\"\"> and its local agent<\/span><span style=\"text-decoration-skip-ink:none;-webkit-text-decoration-skip:none;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.hvdlifesciences.com\/index.php\/en\/\" style=\"\">HVD Life Sciences Egypt<\/a><\/span><span style=\"\"> will partner with the government to build a beta thalassemia screening lab that the cabinet says will be the largest of its kind in the world. Thalassemia is a genetic blood disorder that has <\/span><span style=\"\">high prevalence in the region.<\/span><span style=\"\"> The lab will serve the government\u2019s drive to <\/span><span style=\"text-decoration-skip-ink:none;-webkit-text-decoration-skip:none;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.press\/stories\/2023\/02\/26\/say-no-to-poultry-racism-mandatory-pre-marriage-health-exams-97855\/\" style=\"\">expand mandatory medical screening<\/a><\/span><span style=\"\"> for couples who marry. PerkinElmer will also look into working with the government on a pilot project to screen for <\/span><span style=\"font-weight:400;\">spinal muscular atrophy (SMA) to help enable early detection and treatment of the disease, and present plans to develop the Health Ministry's newborn screening initiative and its central labs, including its genome lab.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><span style=\"font-weight:700\">#3- Manufacturing medical devices: <\/span><span style=\"font-weight:400;\">PerkinElmer and HVD agreed with the government to conduct a feasibility study on assembling medical devices and packaging here for the local market. The companies will also consider setting up a factory to manufacture blotting paper used for screening for diseases.
