{"id":582724,"date":"2023-03-16T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2023-03-16T00:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/enterpriseam.com\/egypt\/2023\/03\/16\/govt-to-start-marketing-state-companies-to-investors-in-april-says-maait\/"},"modified":"2023-03-16T00:00:00","modified_gmt":"2023-03-16T00:00:00","slug":"govt-to-start-marketing-state-companies-to-investors-in-april-says-maait","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/enterpriseam.com\/egypt\/2023\/03\/16\/govt-to-start-marketing-state-companies-to-investors-in-april-says-maait\/","title":{"rendered":"Gov\u2019t to start marketing state companies to investors in April, says Maait"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><span style=\"font-weight:700\">Mark April on your calendars:<\/span><span style=\"\"> The Madbouly government will take to market some <\/span><span style=\"\">of <\/span><span style=\"\">the state-owned companies earmarked for privatization in its rebooted offering program, Finance Minister Mohamed Maait said yesterday, according to <\/span><span style=\"text-decoration-skip-ink:none;-webkit-text-decoration-skip:none;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2023-03-15\/egypt-to-test-market-in-april-with-stake-sale-may-add-new-names?leadSource=uverify wall\" style=\"\">Bloomberg<\/a><\/span><span style=\"font-weight:400;\">. \u201cThe implementation has already started and some of these assets are going to the market next month,\u201d the minister said on the sidelines of a financial conference in Riyadh.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><span style=\"font-weight:700\">Privatization program could expand further: <\/span><span>The government could add another eight names to its list of companies destined for privatization, <\/span><span style=\"\">Maait said, without elaborating.<\/span><span style=\"\">Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouly <\/span><span style=\"text-decoration-skip-ink:none;-webkit-text-decoration-skip:none;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.press\/stories\/2023\/02\/09\/rebooted-privatization-program-to-see-stakes-in-32-companies-sold-to-strategics-public-investors-96067\/\" style=\"\">said last month<\/a><\/span><span style=\"font-weight:400;\"> that the government plans to partially privatize 32 companies by March 2024 via public offerings on the EGX, sales to strategic investors, or a mix of both.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><span style=\"font-weight:700\">Our candidates: <\/span><span style=\"font-weight:400;\">We had been expecting to see Alexbank, eMethanex, Enppi, Assiut Oil Refining Company, and MIDOR on the list unveiled last month. Each of these companies were flagged by the EGX earlier this year as being in line for privatization.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><span style=\"font-weight:700\">Five banks could be sold: <\/span><span style=\"\">The program could include up to five state-owned banks, Maait said, name-checking <\/span><span style=\"\">the state\u2019s 20% stake in Alexbank<\/span><span style=\"\"> as well as <\/span><span style=\"text-decoration-skip-ink:none;-webkit-text-decoration-skip:none;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.press\/stories\/2022\/07\/19\/has-banque-du-caire-pushed-its-ipo-back-again-76097\/\" style=\"\">Banque du Caire<\/a><\/span><span style=\"\">, AAIB, and United Bank. All of them are already on the list and the United Bank has attracted interest from the Saudi sovereign wealth fund, but <\/span><span style=\"text-decoration-skip-ink:none;-webkit-text-decoration-skip:none;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.press\/stories\/2023\/02\/23\/valuation-dispute-puts-saudi-united-bank-acquisition-at-risk-97677\/\" style=\"\">talks have reportedly stalled<\/a><\/span><span style=\"\"> due to disagreements on valuation. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight:400;\">It\u2019s not clear to us which other bank(s) the state may be willing to exit, in whole or in part. <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><span style=\"font-weight:700\">A roadshow for military firms has begun: <\/span><span>CI Capital has <\/span><span style=\"text-decoration-skip-ink:none;-webkit-text-decoration-skip:none;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.press\/stories\/2023\/03\/15\/ci-capital-reportedly-marketing-at-least-10-of-safi-wataniya-to-strategics-100037\/\" style=\"\">reportedly started<\/a><\/span><span style=\"font-weight:400;\"> marketing military-owned firms Safi and Wataniya to strategic investors, and is looking to sell at 10% of each company.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><span style=\"font-weight:700\">REMEMBER- <\/span><span>The privatization push is part of the country\u2019s new <\/span><span style=\"text-decoration-skip-ink:none;-webkit-text-decoration-skip:none;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.press\/stories\/2023\/01\/02\/importers-can-now-turn-the-page-on-l-cs-92524\/\" style=\"\">state ownership policy<\/a><\/span><span> which outlines how the government intends to more than double the private sector\u2019s role in the economy to 65% and attract USD 40 bn in private investment by 2026.
