<\/span>The one theme during last night\u2019s talk shows: money<\/span>, be it the government <\/span>raising wages, a bn-E<\/span>GP<\/span> investment scam, or last week\u2019s fuel price hike. <\/span><\/p>\n

Talk of wages was everywhere last night<\/span> after President Abdel Fattah El Sisi unveiled a new <\/span>round of social protection measures designed to aid the public amid soaring living costs. Kelma Akhira (<\/span>watch, runtime: 17:26<\/a><\/span>), El Hekaya (<\/span>watch, runtime: 10:30<\/a><\/span>), Al Hayah Al Youm (<\/span>watch, runtime: 14:15<\/a><\/span>) and Masaa DMC (<\/span>watch, runtime: 1:29<\/a><\/span>) all had coverage.<\/span><\/p>\n

One of Egypt\u2019s biggest internet scams busted: <\/span>Authorities <\/span>have arrested<\/a><\/span> people believed to <\/span>be behind the fraudulent \u201cinvestment\u201d application Hoggpool, which stole a combined <\/span>EGP 6 bn<\/a><\/span> f<\/span>rom thousands of Egyptians since its launch six months ago. The application advertised itself as an easy way to earn money through the mining of digital currency.<\/span><\/p>\n

Bad news for the victims: <\/span>The stolen money has \u201cevaporated\u201d and it is unlikely that the victims <\/span>will get any of it back, information security expert Walid Abdel Maksoud told Al Hayah Al Youm (<\/span>watch, runtime: 7:18<\/a><\/span>). <\/span><\/p>\n

If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. <\/span>The blame can be divided between naive <\/span>internet users who failed to do their research before \u201cinvesting\u201d and the relevant authorities, Kelma Akhira\u2019s Lamees El Hadidi said (<\/span>watch, runtime: 3:27<\/a><\/span>). There is no such a thing as making over a 100% interest from an investment, she said, voicing her disbelief that over 600k people fell victim to the scam.
