It was a diplomacy-heavy night on the airwaves last night<\/span>, with the nation\u2019s talking heads <\/span>dedicating significant airtime to Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry\u2019s trips to Syria and Turkey, and Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouly\u2019s visit to Doha. <\/span><\/p>\n

Everyone was talking about Shoukry\u2019s visit to Damascus and Adana yesterday<\/span>, with<\/span> <\/span>Foreign Ministry spokesperson Ahmed Abu Zeid phoning in to the shows to talk about the significance of the visits. <\/span><\/p>\n

The main message behind the visit?<\/span> Solidarity with \u201cour brothers in Syria and Turkey\u201d in the <\/span>wake of the deadly earthquake, Abu Zeid told Ala Mas\u2019ouleety, rejecting the suggestion that the meeting touched on Syria\u2019s potential to return to the Arab League (<\/span>watch, runtime: 11:35<\/a><\/span>). Abu Zeid made similar statements on Al Hayah Al Youm (<\/span>watch, runtime: 6:12<\/a><\/span>)<\/span> and Masa\u2019a DMC (<\/span>watch, runtime: 3:44<\/a><\/span>).<\/span><\/p>\n

El Hekaya described the visit to Turkey as unprecedented between the once arch-foes<\/span>, <\/span>and<\/span> highlighted a \u201chug\u201d between Shoukry and Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu (<\/span>watch, runtime: 3:25<\/a><\/span>). \u201cThe earthquake has accelerated [reconciliation] efforts. Madbouly\u2019s visit to Qatar also got special attention:<\/span> <\/span>Kelma Akhira\u2019s Lamis El Hadidi noted <\/span>the ongoing talks between the Qatari sovereign wealth fund and Egypt for the potential USD 2 bn acquisition of 20-30% \u201cor perhaps the whole 45% stake\u201d in Vodafone Egypt owned by Telecom Egypt.
