Reserves have been on a gentle upward slope the past five months and are now up by more than USD 1 bn since the end of August. Reserves fell 20% <\/span><span style=\"text-decoration-skip-ink:none;-webkit-text-decoration-skip:none;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/1081735e-da66-4ffd-a584-d44e361d6b8c\" style=\"\">last spring<\/a><\/span><span style=\"font-weight:400;\"> on the back of the war in Ukraine and tightening financial conditions globally. <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><span style=\"font-weight:700\">BAD NEWS- <\/span><span id='wwtt3'>The Finance Ministry has no intention of scrapping its plan to hike wage taxes<\/span><\/span><span>, we\u2019re told. <\/span><span style=\"\">The Finance Ministry <\/span><span style=\"text-decoration-skip-ink:none;-webkit-text-decoration-skip:none;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/d05905c2-1ee1-4331-b531-13aef7d9b5c7\" style=\"\">last month proposed<\/a><\/span><span style=\"font-weight:400;\"> legislative amendments that would create a new 27.5% personal income tax rate on salaries of more than EGP 800k a year \u2014 a change that won\u2019t be revised by policymakers, our sources tell us.
