Our apologies for the false hope.<\/p>\n<p><strong>We do, however, have a long weekend next week:<\/strong> Next Thursday, 26 January will be a paid holiday for public and private sector workers to mark Police Day and the 25 January revolution, which both fall on the preceding Wednesday, Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouly confirmed in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/EgyptianCabinet\/posts\/pfbid0VonKHQF2H5k43aNkfwBSdizXSgimX2CyiUgeaNYy7jfLduBN4r3hV5KPypWwVzzMl\">statement<\/a> yesterday. We\u2019re keeping our eyes peeled for the central bank and stock exchange to make their own announcements.<\/p>\n<p><strong>THE BIG STORY TODAY<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a class=\"content-anchor\" id=\"tldr-story-01\"><\/a> <strong>B Investments plans EGP 2 bn investments this year:<\/strong> Private equity player B Investments is planning to invest EGP 2 bn (USD 67.5 mn) through two acquisitions in the healthcare and food and beverage industries, <a href=\"https:\/\/bit.ly\/3CZymMP\">Bloomberg Asharq<\/a> quotes Chairman Hazem Barakat as saying. The firm expects to close one healthcare acquisition in 1Q 2023, followed by a food and beverage acquisition in 2Q 2023, according to Barakat.<\/p>\n<p><strong>THE BIG STORY ABROAD<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>There\u2019s no single story leading the conversation in the international business press this<\/strong><strong> afternoon.<\/strong> Among the stories making the rounds:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>The European Central Bank will likely keep up its monetary tightening cycle<\/strong> to tamp down inflation, president Christine Lagarde said. (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ft.com\/content\/cf43669d-95b7-4b69-8ed2-c4b683eb7e94\">Financial Times<\/a>)<\/li>\n<li><strong>Turkey\u2019s central bank left interest rates unchanged again<\/strong>, but could be moving towards interest rate cuts in the future. (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2023-01-19\/turkey-doesn-t-budge-on-rate-with-focus-now-on-alternative-tools?srnd=premium-middle-east\">Bloomberg<\/a>)<\/li>\n<li>French citizens are striking to protest against President Emmanuel Macron\u2019s pension reform plan, which would push back the national retirement age by two years.
