<\/a> A new scheme offering subsidized bread to all is set to launch tomorrow:<\/strong> People not covered by the ration card system will be able to buy bread from bakeries at cost in a trial of the new scheme that will kick off on Wednesday, Supply Minister Ali El Moselhy was quoted as saying by Reuters<\/a> yesterday. Under the program, citizens will be able to buy subsidized 90-gram loaves using prepaid cards, with the move expected to increase the amount of bread sold by the government by up to 10%, Moselhy reportedly said. The prepaid cards will be sold at post offices for around EGP 100, Moselhy said earlier this week<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The subsidized loaves will be sold for EGP 0.90 or slightly higher, <\/strong>Assistant Supply Minister Ibrahim Ashmawy told Kelma Akhira\u2019s Lamees El Hadidi in a phone call (watch, runtime: 6:20<\/a>.) The prepaid cards can be charged with any amount of money, Ashmawy said, adding that there is no limit on how much a person can buy per day.<\/p>\n
