<\/a> Russia responds to the G7 price cap:<\/strong> Russia will ban oil sales to countries that impose the G7\u2019s price cap<\/a> from 1 February, the Kremlin announced<\/a> yesterday in a move that could trigger further volatility in global energy markets in the months ahead.<\/p>\n

It could have been worse:<\/strong> The ban will apply \u201cto all stages of sales up to and including the final buyer,\u201d but gives Putin power to make exceptions to the rule, allowing Moscow to keep shipments flowing to allied countries such as China and India if they comply with the price cap.<\/p>\n

The reaction in the oil market has been muted:<\/strong> Brent inched up 0.9% to USD 85.22 during trading yesterday and is down slightly today.<\/p>\n
