One step closer to the Egyptian-Greek subsea data cable: <\/strong>Telecom Egypt and Greek telecoms company Grid Telecom signed an agreement to lay a subsea data cable across the Mediterranean, according to a joint statement (pdf)<\/a>. The cable is part of a system that will connect Europe, Asia, and Africa and will \u201creinforce Egypt\u2019s strategic position as an international telecommunications hub linking the East and West.\u201d The two sides signed an initial agreement<\/a>for the project over the summer.<\/p>\n

Siemens has been awarded an EUR 40 mn contract to set up a smart grid system <\/strong>and supply 175k smart meters<\/strong> in Dakahlia, Damietta, and Kafr El Sheikh governorates, it said in a statement<\/a> last week. The project is being funded by the Japanese International Cooperation Agency.
