<\/a> It should come as no surprise that the international press is once again <\/strong>laser-focused on COP27 and human rights this morning.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Alaa Abdel Fattah\u2019s hunger strike continues to dominate the conversation<\/strong> The jailed activist\u2019s sister, Sanaa Seif, flew to Sharm El Sheikh yesterday to press for her brother\u2019s release on the day that UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak expressed \u201cdeep concern\u201d about the situation during talks with President El Sisi. AFP<\/a>, Reuters<\/a>, CNN<\/a> ,CNBC<\/a>, Sky News<\/a> and the New York Times<\/a> all have coverage.<\/p>\n

The international criticism keeps on coming: <\/strong>The Guardian<\/a> reports that some attendees aren\u2019t happy with the government\u2019s restrictive firewall, which it claims blocks a host of websites required by delegates and journalists for the summit. Meanwhile, the New York Times writes disapprovingly about Egypt\u2019s ambitions to become a regional natural gas power<\/a> (toz, begad) and grouses about Coca-Cola being on board as a sponsor<\/a> of the summit. The Wall Street Journal<\/a> is the latest to write about the tight surveillance of conference attendees and apparent unfriendliness to climate protests.<\/p>\n
