{"id":576944,"date":"2022-11-03T04:00:03","date_gmt":"2022-11-03T04:00:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/enterpriseam.com\/egypt\/2022\/11\/03\/is-the-state-readying-logistics-companies-for-egx-debuts-in-2023\/"},"modified":"2022-11-03T04:00:03","modified_gmt":"2022-11-03T04:00:03","slug":"is-the-state-readying-logistics-companies-for-egx-debuts-in-2023","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/enterpriseam.com\/egypt\/2022\/11\/03\/is-the-state-readying-logistics-companies-for-egx-debuts-in-2023\/","title":{"rendered":"Is the state readying logistics companies for EGX debuts in 2023?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a class=\"content-anchor\" id=\"tldr-story-01\"><\/a> <strong>More color on the state\u2019s 2023 IPO pipeline:<\/strong> The Madbouly government plans to IPO as many as four state-owned maritime and land transport companies during 1Q 2023 as it looks to reboot its stalled privatization program, the domestic press reports, citing unnamed sources.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Heading to the EGX:<\/strong> <a href=\"http:\/\/dchc.com.eg\/\">Damietta Container & Cargo Handling Company<\/a> (DCHC) and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pscchc.com\/\">Port<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pscchc.com\/\">Said Container & Cargo Handling Company<\/a> (PSCCHC) will be offered on the EGX, the sources reportedly said.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Listing on the Nilex: <\/strong>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.martrans-egypt.com\/\">Egyptian Company For Maritime Transport<\/a> (Martrans) and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.egywarehouses.com\/&sa=D&source=docs&ust=1667440662559107&usg=AOvVaw3kvidIqPJyqSYqorqDGGXQ\">General Egyptian Warehouse Company<\/a> will be offered on small-cap index.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>What\u2019s up for grabs:<\/strong> The state plans to sell at least 25% of the companies to public investors, the sources said. The companies are currently being restructured to meet listing and IPO requirements, they added.<\/p>\n<p><strong>It\u2019s still unclear whether port owner-operators themselves could be privatized. <\/strong>Transport Minister Kamal El Wazir said in May that the government was looking to <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/93a18ed8-1bd2-4f78-b6b4-987ff0ecb1c8\">merge seven ports<\/a> into a holding company and possibly offer it on the EGX and \/ or to strategic investors. He made the remarks after the news of the state\u2019s privatization strategy broke in spring. The minister appeared to walk this back at an event last week, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.almasryalyoum.com\/news\/details\/2725780\">saying<\/a>, \u201cEgypt does not sell its ports.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Gulf investors are interested in the Suez Canal:<\/strong> Emirati port operators have shown significant appetite for Egypt\u2019s Red Sea ports in recent months, with Abu Dhabi Ports <a href=\"https:\/\/gulfbusiness.com\/uaes-ad-ports-group-to-manage-operations-at-egypts-ain-sokhna-port\/\">taking over management of Ain Sokhna port<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/99f85003-cd06-4efe-813f-9d09a33d59d6\">acquiring majority stakes<\/a> in two local shipping companies. Qatar now looks to be getting in on the act and is <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/bd3f1189-fe0f-4c6d-914b-7c320d65f001\">studying investment<\/a> in Damietta port.<\/p>\n<p><strong>REFRESHER-<\/strong> The government is looking at how and when to <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/341bd556-a758-49d4-9aa9-1852ae8a3d9f\">reboot its privatization program<\/a> with recent listing changes and a new <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/eaa81cae-e4e2-4c66-963d-b806c4ed812b\">pre-IPO fund<\/a> set up by the Sovereign Fund of Egypt (SFE) in September. The fund will offer stakes in state-owned companies to strategic investors and sovereign funds ahead of listing them on the bourse. The fund plans to market several state companies \u2014 including the military-owned firms Safi and Wataniya \u2014 to strategic investors ahead of IPOing them on the EGX. <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/163a5afb-e9f0-46c4-b95c-3df60adeb7de\">Neither Safi nor Wataniya will make their EGX debuts this year<\/a> but will see a private stake sale before year end.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Roadshows are happening: <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/05933a92-6536-4bbf-a81c-dbea6e7621da\">The Sovereign Fund of Egypt is about to hit the road<\/a> to market stakes in companies including bottled water maker Safi and filling station operator Wataniya. EGX boss Rami El Dokany is just back from the UAE leg of a <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/a17b0ec8-b298-4830-bdc1-0e487a41fbc3\">roadshow<\/a> that aims to drum up interest in public equities.<\/p>\n<p><strong>What about the private sector pipeline? <\/strong>Dokany said in <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/a8713af9-263c-47e8-83ae-b448caf106bc\">September<\/a> that the EGX is in \u201cserious talks\u201d with five or six private sector companies interested in listing, stressing that <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/edition\/am\/a5aad356-4029-4335-a9df-ca4bbbe6497a\">simplified listing procedures<\/a> are helping drive interest.
