This comes a day after Emirates airline said <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/cea00ad2-a2d1-428e-91d9-9d73aad5a9ae\">it wanted to help transport the shot<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Don\u2019t want to let a pandemic get in the way of your Silk Road roadtrip? Your life <\/strong><strong>just got easier.<\/strong> Air Cairo will start operating regular flights between Tashkent, Uzbekistan, and Sharm El Sheikh on 25 November, before launching charter flights to Samarkand at the end of the year, <a href=\"https:\/\/bit.ly\/35Jv1BD\">Masrawy<\/a> reports. Global companies announced USD 40 bn-worth of M&As on <\/strong><strong>Monday alone <\/strong>in another sign that global M&A activity is recovering on vaccine hopes and more certainty following the Biden win, recounts <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ft.com\/content\/b1935f10-d1b2-4920-ab76-0a2dff670556\">the Financial Times<\/a>. This is also a \u201cclear\u201d signal that executives are banking on affordable financing and using liquidity that has been stored away during the pandemic, says the salmon-colored paper. M&A activity is known to have \u201csignificant correlation to uncertainty \u2026 and that dramatic reduction of uncertainty that we currently have bodes very well,\u201d Anu Aiyengar, co-head of global M&A at JPMorgan Chase, said.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Among the week\u2019s major transactions: <\/strong>PNC Bank\u2019s USD 11.6 bn cash purchase of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ft.com\/content\/42a97547-d857-465d-afd3-7f5b7c9c4d74\">the US<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ft.com\/content\/42a97547-d857-465d-afd3-7f5b7c9c4d74\">operations<\/a> of Spanish rival BBVA, Home Depot\u2019s USD 9.1 bn <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ft.com\/content\/22ae167f-fc2b-46a3-858e-4545132a582a\">reunification with former subsidiary HD Supply<\/a>, and Canada-based and Sawiris-backed Endeavour Mining anticipated <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/f083db8c-1fd4-4886-a472-d592cccafea8\">USD 1.86 bn share-swap acquisition<\/a> of Teranga Gold.<\/p>\n<p><strong>On the flipside, almost 200 corporations have joined the ranks of the undead<\/strong> <strong>since covid-19: <\/strong>Nearly 20% of the US\u2019s 3k largest publicly traded firms have effectively become \u201czombie companies\u201d \u2014 firms that generate enough revenue to pay back interest on their loans but not the loans themselves, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2020-11-17\/america-s-zombie-companies-have-racked-up-1-4-trillion-of-debt?sref=mmeFTDW1\">a Bloomberg analysis of financial data found<\/a>. The Federal Reserve\u2019s purchase of corporate bonds earlier this year helped prop up companies that would otherwise have gone bust, but may have inadvertently created a situation where these companies continue to only just survive, but are too illiquid to contribute to economic growth, analysts say. The companies\u2019 collective debt shot up to USD 1.36 tn from USD 378 bn before the pandemic, and stands at more than double what it was at the height of the financial crisis.<\/p>\n<hr class=\"grey-line\" \/>\n<p><strong>Saudi Aramco returned to the bond market yesterday<\/strong> as it looks to scrape together the funds to meet its USD 75 bn dividend payout, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2020-11-17\/world-s-biggest-oil-firm-saudi-aramco-kicks-off-jumbo-bond-sale?sref=mmeFTDW1\">Bloomberg reports<\/a>. The energy giant sold USD 8 bn of bonds in five tranches in the first issuance since its highly subscribed and record-breaking USD 12 bn offering in April last year. The company has been short on liquidity due to this year\u2019s oil price slump, with a 45% drop in revenues in 3Q2020 leaving it struggling to meet its dividend commitments.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Meanwhile, the country\u2019s Public Investment Fund (PIF) plans to invest <\/strong><strong>USD 40 bn<\/strong><strong> in the Saudi economy <\/strong><strong>over the coming two years <\/strong>in a bid to pull it out of its worst recession in three decades, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2020-11-17\/saudi-wealth-fund-is-making-another-splash-but-this-time-at-home?sref=mmeFTDW1\">Bloomberg<\/a> reports.
