The expectation is that we\u2019re all going to be off Thursday-Monday and return to work next Tuesday.<\/p>\n<hr class=\"grey-line\" \/>\n<p><strong>COVID-19 IN EGYPT-<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a id=\"tldr-story-02\" class=\"content-anchor\"><\/a> <strong>Daily cases reach lowest level since 15 May:<\/strong> The Health Ministry <a href=\"https:\/\/bit.ly\/2ZZBgOw\">yesterday confirmed<\/a> 479 new cases of covid-19 \u2014 the lowest single-day total since 15 May. This brings the nation\u2019s total confirmed cases to 92,062. The ministry also reported <strong>48 new deaths yesterday<\/strong>, increasing the overall death toll to 4,606. We now have a total of 33,831 cases who have fully recovered.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Egypt is prepared for a second wave of covid-19<\/strong>, provided citizens continue to wear masks, practice social distancing and adhere to safety guidelines, deputy head of the state\u2019s anti-covid task force Jihan El Assal said in an interview on Good Morning Egypt on Sunday (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=AjJiFZoskCk\">watch, runtime: 16:59<\/a>). \u201cThere are comprehensive preparations by the health ministry for any second wave of coronavirus. If it happens, we have a plan for that,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p><strong>We\u2019d do well to listen to her advice: <\/strong>South Africa is now the continent\u2019s poster child for how you can blow an early lead in the fight against covid. \u201cLauded in the early stages of the pandemic for taking <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/articles\/as-poorer-nations-ease-coronavirus-curbs-risks-of-new-infections-grow-11587934316\">decisive steps to limit Covid-19 infections<\/a>, South Africa is now battling one of the world\u2019s fastest-growing <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/news\/collection\/coronavirus-6dcf2a21\">coronavirus outbreaks<\/a> that is overpowering hospitals and has caused a dramatic increase in deaths,\u201d writes <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/articles\/after-early-success-south-africa-buckles-under-coronavirus-surge-11595779200\">the WSJ<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Churches in Cairo and Alexandria will reopen on 3 August<\/strong>, the Coptic Orthodox Church said in <a href=\"https:\/\/bit.ly\/2CFn0C0\">a recent statement<\/a>. The government allowed houses of worship to partially reopen (with precautions in place) in <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/1bb3ec4e-133c-4cf4-a351-b54b300e282f\">late June<\/a>, but <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/dcefeb8c-dfce-4a69-a3a6-6f48f6f5c240\">churches decided<\/a> to hold off on reopening to the public while mosques went ahead and opened their doors.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The new universal healthcare scheme is set to roll out on a trial basis in Luxor at the <\/strong><strong>beginning <\/strong><strong>of August<\/strong>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.shorouknews.com\/news\/view.aspx?cdate=26072020&id=9dfb6109-374c-43bb-bbd2-9141a87dc126\">Al Shorouk<\/a> reports. The program was set to be launched in Luxor and South Sinai in March, but the rollout <a href=\"https:\/\/www.shorouknews.com\/news\/view.aspx?cdate=19032020&id=958621d0-b0c5-4b90-a08e-bb532245b4da\">was put on hold<\/a> because of the pandemic. It is unclear whether South Sinai is also ready for the scheme\u2019s launch. The government introduced the universal health insurance scheme on a pilot basis in Port Said <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.press\/stories\/2019\/07\/07\/egypts-new-health-care-system-debut-in-port-said-dominates-nations-airwaves-2\/\">in July 2019<\/a> before taking it live in September.
