Restaurants, coffee shops, sport clubs and houses of worship have the green light to open their doors after months of closure \u2014 albeit <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/1bb3ec4e-133c-4cf4-a351-b54b300e282f\">with some restrictions<\/a> to curb the spread of the virus that causes covid-19. Charter flights will resume this week to select Red Sea destinations on both the mainland and Sinai.<\/p>\n<hr class=\"grey-line\">\n<p><strong>The next question we all need to ask: When will businesses with staff on WFH return to <\/strong><strong>the office? <\/strong>We know nearly a dozen businesses that are stil \u201cout for the duration\u201d or launching trials of permanent work-from-home arrangements, including brand-name Egyptian corporations, multinationals and smaller firms. Enterprise is off on Tuesday, but will be back in your inboxes on Wednesday at the usual time.<\/p>\n<p><strong>COVID-19 IN EGYPT-<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>The Health Ministry <\/strong><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/bit.ly\/2YBPDrQ\">confirmed<\/a><\/strong><strong> 88 new deaths from covid-19 yesterday<\/strong>, bringing the country\u2019s total death toll to 2,708. Egypt has now disclosed a total of 63,923 confirmed cases of covid-19, after the ministry reported <strong>1,168 new infections yesterday<\/strong>. We now have a total of 18,658 confirmed cases that have since tested negative for the virus after being hospitalized or isolated, of whom 17,140 have fully recovered.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Rameda and EvaPharma have started producing covid-19 treatments<\/strong>, the two companies said at the end of last week. Meanwhile, <strong>Rep. Haitham El Hariri has tested positive<\/strong>, he said in <a href=\"https:\/\/bit.ly\/3gaQLIZ\">a statement<\/a> on Friday, making him the eighth MP to have tested positive, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/bit.ly\/3g1ZEEz\">Al Mal<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Restart of football league hits a snag as Zamalek bails: <\/strong>Zamalek FC will not play in the Egyptian Premier League when it restarts in July due to the threat posed by covid-19, the club said in a <a href=\"https:\/\/bit.ly\/386pFja\">statement<\/a> on Wednesday. The league is supposed to be getting back underway on <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/bf6e5a50-7888-42fd-85af-d46ceb2db0af\">25 July<\/a> after a <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/40b9e998-dad6-4293-9c27-97d7c9a17e0b\">four-month hiatus<\/a>, with players returning to training last week. Zamalek goalkeeper Mohamed Awaad <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/mohamedawaad\/status\/1276574383444840450\">announced<\/a> that he has tested positive for the virus. The EFA <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/7778452a-64dd-4588-b63b-01723164f4ac\">admitted on Wednesday<\/a> that six players had tested positive after returning to training on 20 June.<\/p>\n<p class='web-image' ><a href='https:\/\/somabay.com\/'><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/ent.news\/2020\/6\/SOMA-ENTERPRISE-3-1600px.jpg?ssl=1\" alt='enterprise'><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>ON THE GLOBAL FRONT-<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>The US is seriously struggling to get a grip on its outbreak:<\/strong> The United States reported a record increase in new cases of covid-19 for three consecutive days last week as the virus surges in the country\u2019s southern states, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/nation\/2020\/06\/26\/coronavirus-live-updates-us\/\">Washington Post<\/a> reports. An all-time high of almost 45k new cases were discovered on Friday, while 13 states set new seven-day records and six recorded new single-day highs. The CDC reports that actual US cases are likely 10x higher than the reported numbers show, according to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2020\/06\/27\/health\/coronavirus-antibodies-asymptomatic.html?action=click&module=Spotlight&pgtype=Homepage\">NYT<\/a>. <strong>The surge has prompted Florida and Texas to reintroduce lockdown restrictions<\/strong>, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ft.com\/content\/13defc6a-2dfe-4955-ae11-3e0e837936f6\">Financial Times<\/a> reports.<\/p>\n<p><strong>India broke the 500k case mark<\/strong> after declaring 17k new infections on Friday, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/world\/2020\/jun\/27\/global-report-india-covid-19-cases-pass-500000-as-us-records-highest-daily-increase\">the Guardian<\/a> says.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Dubai last week ordered all bars and pubs to close until further notice<\/strong> to help enourage folks to follow social distancing rules, <a href=\"https:\/\/gulfnews.com\/uae\/dubai-bars-and-pubs-ordered-to-close-until-further-notice-1.72227034#:~:text=Dubai%3A%20All%20bars%20and%20pubs,be%20served%20until%20further%20notice.\">Gulf News<\/a> reported.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The EU has yet to agree on a \u201csafe list\u201d of countries whose residents can travel to the <\/strong><strong>bloc<\/strong>, which is expected to initially exclude the United States, Russia, and Brazil because of the large number of covid-19 cases in those countries, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/article\/us-health-coronavirus-eu-travel\/eu-holds-off-decision-on-borders-americans-set-to-be-excluded-idUSKBN23X2TX\">Reuters<\/a> reports.<\/p>\n<p class='web-image'><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/ent.news\/2020\/6\/Georgieva-2-1600px.jpg?ssl=1\" alt='enterprise'><\/p>\n<p><strong>GLOBAL MACRO- <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Could the coronavirus crisis leave the IMF broke?<\/strong> The global economic crisis caused by the covid-19 pandemic threatens to drain the IMF\u2019s USD 1 tn in lending capacity if it continues to worsen, the fund\u2019s managing director Kristalina Georgieva said on Friday, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/article\/us-imf-georgieva\/imfs-georgieva-says-virus-crisis-could-ultimately-test-1-trillion-war-chest-idUSKBN23X21Q\">Reuters<\/a> reports. The IMF last week <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/2b47a22c-5356-4ebb-8019-0d038f5afd7f\">significantly downgraded<\/a> its outlook for the global economy, forecasting a 4.9% drop in global GDP (down from 3% in its April outlook) and USD 12 tn in lost output. \u201cWe still have about three quarters of our lending capacity available,\u201d Georgieva said during a Reuters webcast. \u201cI wouldn\u2019t put it beyond us that we might be in a place where the IMF\u2019s resources are being tested, but we\u2019re not there yet.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>EGYPT BEYOND COVID- <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>The Tax Authority\u2019s electronic tax filing system will have its beta version ready by this <\/strong><strong>coming Tuesday<\/strong>, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/bit.ly\/2B6ehYJ\">a ministry statement<\/a>. The tax filing and collection electronic system would allow the authority to maintain better oversight on commercial transactions and make life easier for taxpayers, the statement says. Amazon didn\u2019t mention the price tags, but the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ft.com\/content\/37ae69d9-f160-48c3-b3c5-736730c110ce\">Financial Times<\/a> claims the acquisition will cost the online retail giant around USD 1.2 bn.<\/p>\n<p>From the Department of Window Dressing: <strong>Unilever will still sell its \u201cFair & Lovely\u201d <\/strong><strong>products \u2014 just under a different brand<\/strong><strong> name.<\/strong> The company said on Thursday that it will rebrand the product line to remove words referencing whitening and fairness, but is steadfast that Fair & Lovely \u201chas never been a skin-bleaching product,\u201d the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/articles\/unilever-to-rename-fair-lovely-skin-lightening-cream-amid-criticism-11593085818\">Wall Street Journal<\/a> says.
