Protests and violence haven\u2019t yet convinced investors to recalibrate their long-term views, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ft.com\/content\/7e56fdd5-951a-44bb-9745-c5d8d491991c\">Financial Times<\/a> writes. <strong>The EGX30 was essentially flat in heavy trading yesterday<\/strong>, closing the day up 0.1%.<\/p>\n<p><strong>COVID-19 IN EGYPT-<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a class=\"content-anchor\" id=\"tldr-story-03\"><\/a> <strong>The Health Ministry<\/strong> <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/tinyurl.com\/y8v7d2q9\">confirmed<\/a><\/strong><strong> 46 new deaths from covid-19 yesterday<\/strong>, bringing the country\u2019s total death toll to 1,005. Egypt has now disclosed a total of 26,348 confirmed cases of covid-19, after the ministry reported 1,399 new infections yesterday, which<a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/article\/us-health-coronavirus-egypt-toll\/egypt-reports-first-decline-in-new-coronavirus-cases-for-a-week-idUSKBN2383JS\">Reuters<\/a> noted is the first decline of daily new cases in a week. We now have a total of 7,149 confirmed cases that have since tested negative for the virus after being hospitalized or isolated, of whom 6,447 have fully recovered.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Egypt could hit the 30k case mark by the end of this week <\/strong>and add another 10k cases next week, Higher Education Minister Khaled Abdel Gaffar said yesterday, <a href=\"https:\/\/bit.ly\/3cnKRS8\">Hapi Journal reports<\/a>. Abdel Ghaffar also floated the idea that we could see 1 mn cases in total under one of the government\u2019s less likely projected infection scenarios \u2014 where we wind up, he said, depends largely on people\u2019s behavior (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=zzsiR2J8X30\">watch, runtime 1:29<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p><strong>The total number of covid-19 fatalities among Egyptian physicians rose to <\/strong><strong>32<\/strong><strong> on<\/strong> <strong>Monday<\/strong> while infections hit 372, <a href=\"https:\/\/bit.ly\/2XkFnnc\">Youm7<\/a> reports The syndicate <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/ee2fcc31-062e-48d9-8f41-7f4524a512be\">has been calling on the Health Ministry<\/a> to better <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/5337c61c-cc19-4ede-a95d-02700eccae6d\">protect frontline medical workers<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Hospitals and pharmacies remain well-stocked with medical equipment across the <\/strong><strong>country<\/strong>, said Health Minister Hala Zayed, who urged people to refrain from panic buying immune-modifying medicine to avoid shortages, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/egypt.mohp\/posts\/177132970503990\">a ministry statement<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Grocery stores and retail operators have a new set of guidelines to follow <\/strong>that puts the onus on them to ensure the safety of their shoppers, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.almasryalyoum.com\/news\/details\/1983674\">Al Masry Al Youm<\/a>. The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/msitegypt\/photos\/a.627579237328009\/2978000598952516\/?type=3&theater\">rules include<\/a>: Barring anyone without a mask from entry; providing plastic gloves, disinfectants and masks to patrons at cost; routine surface cleaning; enforcing social distancing throughout, including in checkout aisles; and limiting traffic to 25% of a store\u2019s maximum occupancy, among others.<\/p>\n<hr class=\"grey-line\">\n<p><strong>The EGP is back to where it stood in mid-January against the USD<\/strong>, easing four piasters yesterday against the greenback to 15.87, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/ent.news\/2020\/6\/ExchangeRatesHistorical.pdf\">data from the Central Bank of Egypt (pdf)<\/a>. The EGP had rallied more than 3% against the greenback during the first seven weeks of 2020 and had held steady since the onset of the pandemic before easing in the past two weeks. The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2020-06-01\/overvalued-african-currencies-may-strain-central-bank-reserves?sref=mmeFTDW1\">EGP, NRN and KES<\/a> have all held their value as other African currencies have slumped under pandemic pressure.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Citizens living abroad will get a six-month extension on the validity of their passports<\/strong> to help them renew their residence status wherever they\u2019re living now while overseas passport services are suspended, <a href=\"https:\/\/bit.ly\/2Mp5hj7\">according to Al Masry Al Youm<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Hotels will now be able to operate at a 50% occupancy rate<\/strong> if they meet the necessary safety requirements, the <a href=\"https:\/\/bit.ly\/2ZWLhfT\">Tourism Ministry announced<\/a> yesterday. Some <a href=\"https:\/\/bit.ly\/2AlBZ2i\">78 properties<\/a>, mostly along the Red Sea, were open starting in Eid With a 25% cap on occupancy under <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/911208cc-7e2c-43c6-9b09-9f249c961415\">new rules<\/a> designed to prevent the spread of covid-19.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Irrigation Minister Mohamed Abdel Ati has concluded his time in self-isolation<\/strong> after having come in contact with Daqahlia Governor Ayman Mokhtar, who <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/2305524b-1466-404a-bab6-18f41462ca43\">last month<\/a> tested positive for the virus, according to state-owned <a href=\"http:\/\/gate.ahram.org.eg\/News\/2411997.aspx\">Ahram Gate<\/a>. Abdel Ati is expected back in the office today.<\/p>\n<p><strong>A new curfew means a new metro timetable:<\/strong> The Cairo Metro is now running from 5:15 am, with last trains departing at 7:15-7:45 pm depending on the line, according to the <a href=\"https:\/\/bit.ly\/2U0Zvse\">Transport Ministry<\/a>.
