<\/a> The government is drawing up plans to \u201ccoexist\u201d with covid-19 in the long term, saying <\/strong>there is currently \u201cno end in sight\u201d to the outbreak<\/strong>, according to a cabinet statement<\/a>. Health Minister Hala Zayed presented to cabinet yesterday her ministry\u2019s proposal that would see the government significantly ease restrictions and gradually reopen the economy while still adhering to \u201cprecautionary medical guidelines.\u201d<\/p>\n

The plan wouldn\u2019t see a complete return to normalcy, but is meant to give businesses <\/strong>and government services space to operate and fire up the economy again.<\/strong> Zayed said the government would push for an increased reliance on electronic payments and services to avoid physical crowding, while places labeled as \"high risk\" for the spread of the virus \u2014 which were not specified in the statement \u2014 will remain closed.<\/p>\n

Zayed didn\u2019t say when this plan would come into effect, but our guess is the <\/strong>government is shooting for right after Ramadan.<\/strong> Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouly has relaxed<\/a> some covid-19 restrictions for the duration of the holy month, including shortening the nighttime curfew, and suggested at the time<\/a> we could see a \u201cgradual\u201d return to normal life after Ramadan.<\/p>\n

Nothing is set in stone:<\/strong> The government will review the plan and amend it as needed every two weeks based on how the situation progresses, the statement notes.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
