Start training all your staff to be able to handle covid-19 cases as they come in, and think of how to optimize space inside hospitals.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr class=\"grey-line\" \/>\n<p><strong>COVID-19 HERE IN EGYPT-<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Egypt has now reported 294 cases of covid-19, and 10 people have died of the disease, <\/strong>according to a Health Ministry <a href=\"https:\/\/bit.ly\/2WxWW32\">statement<\/a>, making 75 new cases over the weekend, the added (<a href=\"https:\/\/bit.ly\/2QzQhBE\">here<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/bit.ly\/3dj4E70\">here<\/a>). The two deaths announced yesterday were Giza residents, including a 68-year-old woman and a 75-year-old man. A total of 41 people have fully recovered and been discharged from hospital, and 73 people have tested negative after being treated in hospital and look to be on the path to release.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The Supreme Council of University Hospitals has ordered its facilities to cut <\/strong><strong>non-emergency admission by 70%<\/strong> to free beds for potential covid-19 patients, <a href=\"https:\/\/bit.ly\/33AKlgT\">according to a cabinet statement<\/a>. University hospital outpatient clinics are to cut their patient intakes by 50% and create specific, isolated facilities for patients presenting with respiratory problems. <strong>University hospitals were told to each prepare 30-bed quarantine areas <\/strong>and to ensure they have six-month supplies of key equipment, meds and disposables.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Former Health Minister Mohamed Awad Tageldin, a familiar face to many Enterprise <\/strong><strong>readers, is back in government services. <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/bit.ly\/2vDICuL\">Ittihadiya said<\/a> President Abdel Fattah El Sisi had tapped the noted expert in pulmonary diseases as his advisor on health affairs.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Is a new stimulus package in the works?<\/strong> Planning and Economic Development Minister Hala El Said signaled the government is preparing a new stimulus package that will be similar to the EGP 30 bn approved by the government back in 2008 following the financial crisis, <a href=\"https:\/\/bit.ly\/398SDhe\">the ministry said<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Some MPs are calling for a curfew and others for a ban on non-essential travel between <\/strong><strong>the governorates, <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.masrawy.com\/news\/news_egypt\/details\/2020\/3\/21\/1747592\/%D9%85%D9%86%D8%B9-%D8%A7%D9%84%D8%B3%D9%81%D8%B1-%D8%A8%D9%8A%D9%86-%D8%A7%D9%84%D9%85%D8%AD%D8%A7%D9%81%D8%B8%D8%A7%D8%AA-%D9%86%D9%88%D8%A7%D8%A8-%D9%8A%D9%82%D8%AA%D8%B1%D8%AD%D9%88%D9%86-%D8%A5%D8%AC%D8%B1%D8%A7%D8%A1%D8%A7%D8%AA-%D8%AC%D8%AF%D9%8A%D8%AF%D8%A9-%D9%84%D9%85%D9%88%D8%A7%D8%AC%D9%87%D8%A9-%D9%83%D9%88%D8%B1%D9%88%D9%86%D8%A7#sectionListing\">Masrawy reports<\/a>.<\/p>\n<hr class=\"grey-line\" \/>\n<p><a id=\"tldr-story-01\" class=\"content-anchor\"><\/a> <strong>Places of worship are closed to prayers for the next two weeks. <\/strong>The Ministry of Religious Endowments\u2019 ban includes a suspension of collective Friday prayers in mosques, a <a href=\"https:\/\/bit.ly\/2Us1PrS\">statement<\/a> said, while the call to prayer has been revised to urge worshippers to pray from their homes. The Coptic Church has similarly suspended masses and other activities in churches and community halls for two weeks, the <a href=\"https:\/\/alborsaanews.com\/2020\/03\/21\/1309995\">local press reports<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Shopping malls, sporting clubs, cafes and nightclubs are to close from 7pm and 6am <\/strong><strong>daily <\/strong>until the end of the month, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/bit.ly\/2U9y93I\">a cabinet statement<\/a> issued Thursday. Grocery stores, pharmacies, bakeries and ba\u2019els are exempt.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The central bank has raised limits on ATM withdrawals and electronic transfers <\/strong>as part of a move to ease the flow of funds in the banking system while cutting down on foot traffic to bank branches. We have more in this morning\u2019s Speed Round, below.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Any business violating the restrictions will be shut down for a month and be slapped <\/strong><strong>with a EGP 20k fine,<\/strong> Cairo Governorate said, according to a <a href=\"https:\/\/alborsaanews.com\/2020\/03\/21\/1310194\">report<\/a> in the domestic press. The governorate made the announcement after TV news reports showed establishments flouting the order to close.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The Tax Authority (TA) has pushed the deadline for individual taxpayers to file <\/strong><strong>returns to 9 April from 31 March<\/strong>, <a href=\"https:\/\/bit.ly\/2UviiLI\">TA boss Reda Abdel Kader said<\/a>. The authority also lifted fees on online submission in a bid to encourage both companies and regular people to submit their returns electronically. The government <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/72e094e2-5cf4-4457-a0a9-bbdebc078fa0\">began<\/a> online tax filings at the start of the year as part of Egypt\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/264efa9e-21cf-463d-9bcd-be3a9b1e9db4\">new unified digital tax payment system<\/a>. <strong>Next up: We think the deadline for businesses needs to be pushed back, too. <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>End-of-term exams have been cancelled at universities and final exams could be postponed to <\/strong>after 30 May if the current shutdown lasts, the <a href=\"https:\/\/bit.ly\/2WyNOvd\">Ministry of Higher Education said<\/a>. Final exams for primary and prep school students in the state education system have been cancelled, Education Minister Tarek Shawky <a href=\"https:\/\/www.egypttoday.com\/Article\/1\/82822\/Egypt-cancels-final-exams-for-primary-preparatory-grade-students-due\">said on Thursday evening<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Other measures now in place:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Museums and <strong>archaeological sites are closed until the end of the month<\/strong>, the <a href=\"https:\/\/bit.ly\/2UtTEem\">Tourism Ministry said in a statement<\/a>, while sound and light shows have been <a href=\"https:\/\/bit.ly\/2wsjBTF\">suspended nationwide<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Hotel restaurants and health clubs in the Greater Cairo Area are off-limits <\/strong>to anyone not staying at the hotel, the <a href=\"http:\/\/english.ahram.org.eg\/NewsContent\/1\/64\/365689\/Egypt\/Politics-\/Hotel-restaurants,-nightclubs-in-Cairo-to-be-offli.aspx\">Tourism Ministry said<\/a>. In a single week.<\/a><\/strong> There are no words\u2026<\/p>\n<p><strong>And there aren\u2019t any for this either:<\/strong> The Trump administration is putting together a stimulus package that will total more than USD 2 tn, White House Economic Advisor Larry Kudlow <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2020\/03\/21\/kudlow-says-coronavirus-relief-package-worth-more-than-2-trillion.html\">said yesterday<\/a>. To put that figure in context, the package <strong>would equal around 10% of US annual economic output<\/strong> and is double what the administration was talking about less than a week ago.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Jordan, Tunisia on lockdown:<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/article\/us-health-coronavirus-jordan\/jordan-announces-lockdown-from-saturday-to-combat-coronavirus-idUSKBN21723K\">Jordan<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/bit.ly\/3al5jms\">Tunisia<\/a> have both ordered their citizens to refrain from leaving their homes except for in cases of emergency.<\/p>\n<p><strong>New York, California, and Illinois residents have also been instructed to stay at <\/strong><strong>home<\/strong> and cease all nonessential travel, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/articles\/coronavirus-deaths-surpass-10-000-globally-11584698319\">according to the WSJ<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The UK has taken the unprecedented decision to step in and pay people\u2019s wages<\/strong> in a bid to prevent the outbreak from causing mass unemployment. The government will pay up to GBP 2.5k per month to cover salaries of people who are at risk of losing their jobs. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/news\/business-51982005\">The BBC has more<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Italy is \u201cshutting almost all industrial output\u201d for 15 days<\/strong> as the outbreak continued to accelerate over the weekend despite the government-imposed lockdown, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2020-03-21\/congress-works-on-aid-deal-spain-cases-to-worsen-virus-update?sref=mmeFTDW1\">Bloomberg reports<\/a>. The country announced 793 people new deaths and<a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/3dcb3392a3c566a1caad7444e93fc7e6\">6.6k new cases<\/a> yesterday \u2014 the largest daily increase yet.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The US Federal Reserve has ramped up its purchases of mortgage bonds after the <\/strong><strong>national average loan rate for mortgages spiked<\/strong> and the bonds came \u201cunder acute selling pressure.\u201d The Fed\u2019s New York branch buying USD 71 bn in the bonds between Monday and Friday, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ft.com\/content\/ed6c48c6-6ae5-11ea-800d-da70cff6e4d3\">the Financial Times reports<\/a>.
