Officials signed an agreement with a group of Chinese banks this weekend to disburse the third and final tranche, the statement noted without mentioning a size and timeline. Egypt closed USD 3 bn in Chinese financing <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.press\/stories\/2019\/05\/02\/usd-3-bn-in-chinese-financing-for-egypt-as-el-sisi-deepens-ties-with-china-at-belt-and-road-forum-in-beijing\/\">back in May 2019<\/a> to finance the construction of the district, which is being built by the China State Construction Engineering Corporation (CSCEC). The release of the loan had reportedly faced delays <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/0bd1925b-f483-48ed-aaad-96d4c6c31362\">earlier this year<\/a> after the government failed to meet certain conditions, government sources said at the time, without disclosing more information.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Other things we\u2019re keeping an eye on this morning:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Vodafone Egypt<\/strong> is looking to launch a pilot nano lending service with <strong>Bank of <\/strong><strong>Alexandria<\/strong> through mobile wallets, Vodafone Egypt\u2019s external relations director, Ayman Essam, told <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2020-12-24\/vodafone-egypt-to-launch-nano-lending-with-bank-of-alexandria?sref=mmeFTDW1\">Bloomberg<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>The <strong>National Bank of Egypt<\/strong> and state-owned fintech firm <strong>e-Finance<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/bit.ly\/3aD3LaA\">will establish<\/a> an <strong>e-payment system<\/strong> for services offered by a number of local municipalities.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>The Egyptian Commercial Service is <a href=\"https:\/\/bit.ly\/34GkOEP\">considering establishing<\/a> <strong>eight new commercial<\/strong><strong> offices<\/strong> in Sudan, Kenya, Tanzania, Togo, Senegal, Cameroon, Nigeria and Mozambique.<\/li>\n<li><strong>NBE <\/strong>and <strong>Banque Misr <\/strong>are providing EGP 50 mn under a program with <a href=\"https:\/\/ent.news\/2020\/12\/WFP-Press-Release.pdf\">the World<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/ent.news\/2020\/12\/WFP-Press-Release.pdf\"><\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/ent.news\/2020\/12\/WFP-Press-Release.pdf\">Food Programme (pdf)<\/a> to small farmers and women entrepreneurs in Upper Egypt.<\/li>\n<li>Authorities <a href=\"https:\/\/bit.ly\/3rnekV0\">have completed<\/a> a <strong>renovation of the Philae Temple in Aswan<\/strong>, and are planning to reopen the landmark to the public soon.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Egypt is soon getting the final tranche of a Chinese loan to finance the new capital\u2019s business district, cabinet said in a statement on Friday.
