Finance Minister Mohamed Maait <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/dfcf497b-7f1b-46c2-8fd2-ab50c007d3a3\">last week<\/a> reiterated his plans to exempt factories from paying the tax after <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.press\/stories\/2019\/09\/24\/egypt-finishes-initial-draft-of-new-income-tax-law\/\">saying in September<\/a> that manufacturers will be getting \u201cpreferential treatment\u201d in property tax. It is believed that the Finance Ministry <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.press\/stories\/2019\/02\/10\/egypt-to-repeal-real-estate-tax-exemptions-for-private-homes-provide-preferential-treatment-for-hotels-factories-oil-and-gas\/\">is working on<\/a> a new formula for calculating property tax that would reduce the tax burden for the oil and gas sector, factories, and hotels.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The cabinet also approved during its weekly meeting:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The establishment of a service fund affiliated with the Public Enterprises Ministry to finance the restructuring of state-owned companies.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>A USD 50 mn loan from the European Bank of Reconstruction and Development to improve energy use efficiency in the Gulf of Suez Petroleum Company.<\/li>\n<li>A EUR 226 mn financing agreement between the Egyptian National Railways and Export Development Canada to buy 100 new train locomotives.<\/li>\n<li>A USD 159k grant from the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development to support the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics in preparing statistics.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>CABINET WATCH- Cabinet approves partial property tax exemption for factories: The Madbouly Cabinet approved draft amendments to the Real Estate Tax Act that exempts idle land from property tax, according to a cabinet statement.
