The new group, which includes Israel, Cyprus, Greece, Italy, Jordan, Palestine and Egypt, first convened in <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.press\/stories\/2019\/01\/15\/east-med-gas-players-vow-to-establish-regional-market-choose-cairo-as-hq-for-new-organization\/\">January 2019<\/a> to accelerate the creation of a regional gas market.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Bank Audi may be leaving Egypt after all<\/strong>, weighed down more by tumult in its home market of Lebanon than by its slow-to-close acquisition of the National Bank of Greece\u2019s assets in Egypt;<\/li>\n<li><strong>Endeavour\u2019s big bid for Centamin ended yesterday <\/strong>as the Toronto-listed gold miner backed by anchor shareholder Naguib Sawiris walked away from the fight.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>We have all of that and more in this morning\u2019s Speed Round, below.<\/p>\n<hr class=\"grey-line\" \/>\n<p><strong>The central bank\u2019s <\/strong><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/686d5a40-222a-452c-b733-501399f7b19e\">new Monetary Policy Committee (MPC)<\/a><\/strong><strong> meets tomorrow to decide on <\/strong><strong>interest rates. <\/strong>Analysts are almost evenly split, with four out of seven <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/8fa9ee98-ba74-449a-b6a6-2a8c5fa8a8b8\">we polled earlier<\/a> this week calling rate cuts of between 50-100 bps, and three expecting the MPC to hold. A similar survey <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/article\/us-egypt-economy-poll\/egypts-central-bank-seen-making-fourth-consecutive-interest-rate-cut-reuters-poll-idUSKBN1ZD1W6\">by Reuters<\/a> out yesterday has eight out of 11 analysts calling a cut. The MPC cut rates by <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.press\/stories\/2019\/11\/17\/central-bank-of-egypt-cuts-interest-rates-by-100-bps-6356\/\">100 bps when it last met in November<\/a>, capping a year of accelerated easing that saw 450 bps in cuts.<\/p>\n<p><strong>D-Day for GERD talks:<\/strong> It\u2019s deadline day for the Egyptian, Ethiopian and Sudanese officials still haggling in Washington over the filling and operating timetable of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD). The countries pledged back in November to have put all their differences aside by 15 January, but recent statements have suggested that differences are still very much in play.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Germany confirms Libya peace conference to take place in Berlin on Sunday:<\/strong> Ceasefire talks in Moscow went nowhere yesterday after eastern military commander Khalifa Haftar refused to sign the document with the UN-recognized Fayez Al Serraj. The investment bank made a record USD 36.4 bn in net income due to surging investment-banking revenues in the final quarter. Meanwhile, Citigroup saw its profit rise 15% to USD 4.98 bn in the final three months of 2019, mainly due to its investment-banking operations. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/articles\/big-banks-post-big-profits-thanks-to-strong-u-s-economy-11579027938?mod=hp_lead_pos1\">The Wall Street Journal has more<\/a>.<\/p>\n<hr class=\"grey-line\" \/>\n<p><strong>Saudi Arabia\u2019s next IPO to test the post-Aramco waters:<\/strong> <a href=\"http:\/\/hmg.com\/en\/pages\/home.aspx\">Dr. Sulaiman Al Habib Medical<\/a><a href=\"http:\/\/hmg.com\/en\/pages\/home.aspx\">Group<\/a>, one of Saudi Arabia\u2019s largest private healthcare operators, is planning an IPO next month to sell a stake of 15% of its share capital, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2020-01-13\/saudi-healthcare-firm-said-to-start-ipo-in-wake-of-aramco-sale?sref=mmeFTDW1\">according to Bloomberg<\/a>. The listing should be a good indicator of investor appetite after Aramco raised more than USD 29 bn last December in the world\u2019s biggest ever IPO.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Anghami mulls sale to OSN, raising capital with JPMorgan Chase to finance <\/strong><strong>expansion plans:<\/strong> The streaming service could be acquired by Dubai\u2019s Orbit Showtime Network and see its valuation reach USD 400 mn as it continues to grow in popularity in the region, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2020-01-12\/music-streaming-app-anghami-is-said-to-weigh-sale-among-options?srnd=premium-middle-east&sref=mmeFTDW1\">according to Bloomberg<\/a>, which cites sources close to the matter. It\u2019s also considering hiring JPMorgan Chase to raise capital to fund an expansion, the sources added.<\/p>\n<p class=\"web-image\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/ent.news\/2019\/12\/Trump-1600px.jpg?ssl=1\" alt=\"enterprise\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Trump impeachment trial begins next Tuesday:<\/strong> The US Senate will name the democrat lawmakers to argue for the removal of President Trump on Wednesday, which will be followed by an impeachment trial next Tuesday, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/articles\/house-to-vote-on-impeachment-resolution-on-wednesday-democratic-aide-says-11579013281?mod=hp_lead_pos3\">the Wall Street Journal quoted Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell as saying.<\/a> The US president will name a team to defend him, including the White House counsel and Trump\u2019s personal lawyer.<\/p>\n<p><strong>T<\/strong><strong>he US Treasury Department is no longer designating China a currency manipulator<\/strong> after Beijing made an \u201cenforceable commitment\u201d to stop competitively devaluing its currency, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/articles\/u-s-to-drop-china-s-currency-manipulator-tag-ahead-of-trade-deal-11578936073?mod=hp_lead_pos2\">the Wall Street Journal reports<\/a>. The agreement comes two days before the countries sign the first phase of last month\u2019s trade pact.
