<\/a> Proposed <\/strong>energy tariffs for electric vehicle (EV) charging stations won Cabinet\u2019s signoff <\/strong>today<\/strong>, according to a statement<\/a>. The tariffs cover both the cost of electricity sold to charging stations as well as charging costs to end users.<\/p>\n

WHAT DOES INDUSTRY THINK? The tariff is \u201csuitable\u201d as a start and will be revisited <\/strong>annually<\/strong>, Infinity\u2019s Shams El Din Abdel Ghaffar tells us. Abdel Ghaffar, who is managing director of the company\u2019s EV division, believes the tariffs are an important step towards the more widespread adoption of EVs here. \u201cThe tariff is suitable as a start, and will be revisited annually by the government in order to ensure that it is feasible for EV station and infrastructure developers, like ourselves,\u201d he adds. Infinity is counting on the government\u2019s support as a catalyst for EV adoption, he says.<\/p>\n

These are the same tariffs that <\/strong>the Egyptian Electricity Utility and Consumer Protection <\/strong>Regulatory Agency <\/strong>(<\/a><\/strong>Egyptera) proposed last September<\/a><\/strong>, Infinity tells us. Details on the timeline for implementation remain unclear.<\/sup> Until the new pricing is implemented, you can charge up your EV at Infinity\u2019s stations without paying a piaster.<\/p>\n
