{"id":566780,"date":"2021-07-13T14:05:32","date_gmt":"2021-07-13T14:05:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/enterpriseam.com\/egypt\/2021\/07\/13\/egx-listed-companies-nbfs-players-will-face-mandatory-esg-disclosures\/"},"modified":"2021-07-13T14:05:32","modified_gmt":"2021-07-13T14:05:32","slug":"egx-listed-companies-nbfs-players-will-face-mandatory-esg-disclosures","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/enterpriseam.com\/egypt\/2021\/07\/13\/egx-listed-companies-nbfs-players-will-face-mandatory-esg-disclosures\/","title":{"rendered":"EGX-listed companies + NBFS players will face mandatory ESG disclosures"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a id=\"tldr-story-02\" class=\"content-anchor\"><\/a> <strong>Mandatory ESG reporting requirements are coming for EGX-listed companies <\/strong><strong>and just <\/strong><strong>about all NBFS players<\/strong> under a decree issued by the Financial Regulatory Authority (FRA), which will force corporates to report on key environmental, social and governance metrics and principles each year at the same time as they file their annual financial statements, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/ent.news\/2021\/7\/PRL-FRA.docx.pdf\">a press release (pdf)<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>There are two levels of compliance <\/strong>under the decree (details <a href=\"https:\/\/ent.news\/2021\/7\/108.pdf\">here<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/ent.news\/2021\/7\/107.pdf\">here<\/a>):<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>EGX-listed companies and NBFS players (listed or not) with issued capital of at least EGP 100 mn <\/strong>need to make an annual ESG disclosure.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Those with issued capital of EGP 500 mn or more <\/strong>will need to report on performance indicators that align with recommendations from the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fsb-tcfd.org\/recommendations\/#:~:text=The%20TCFD%20recommendations%20on%20climate,included%20in%20mainstream%20financial%20filings.\">Task Force on Climate Financial Disclosure (TFCD)<\/a>, the statement said.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>The reporting requirement comes into effect at the start of 2022. <\/strong>Companies will need to disclose quarterly the steps they\u2019re taking to start complying with the decree, and their first full ESG disclosure is due on the same day they file their financial statements for FY2022.<\/p>\n<p><strong>BACKGROUND- The FRA is casting the requirements as part of a long-term strategy to <\/strong><strong>position Egypt as a sustainable finance hub.<\/strong> Mainstream investors are increasingly making ESG a part of their investment decisions, and Egypt\u2019s policymakers have taken note: The country issued its <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/5d1b54d5-5efa-41c9-ac8b-728b105b2ef0\">inaugural USD 750 mn green bond issuance<\/a> last year (the region\u2019s first sovereign offering of the climate-friendly securities).
