Awad spoke primarily on EFG and the Sovereign Fund of Egypt\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/world\/middle-east\/efg-hermes-eyes-start-ups-after-aib-deal-says-ceo-2021-05-23\/\">acquisition<\/a> of the Arab Investment Bank \u2014 Egypt\u2019s first bank privatization since 2006 \u2014 without revealing much beyond what was already announced last week. We sat down with CEO Karim Awad this morning who gave us more color and detail on the story, which we will run later this week.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Meanwhile, former CI Capital co-CEOs Hazem Badran and Tarek Tantawi are setting up <\/strong><strong>their own PE firm \u2014 Valor Capital Partners.<\/strong> Their first transaction is also coming in 3Q2021. We have more details in the Speed Round below.<\/p>\n<p><strong>And while we\u2019re on M&As, companies competing for Abu Dhabi Commercial Bank\u2019s 51.4% stake in Alexandria Medical Services now have until Thursday to make their final offers, <\/strong>the bank said in <a href=\"https:\/\/ent.news\/2021\/5\/Alex-Medical-deadline-05-2021.pdf\">a letter to the Financial Regulatory Authority (pdf)<\/a>. This came after Cleopatra Hospitals Group (CHG) <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/8bcdeedc-6ea2-4492-adf0-c0dad0bff1f1\">last week<\/a> offered to buy shares at EGP 38.53 apiece, which was considerably lower than the average EGP 51.7 per share received by other bids. The lower offer has already prompted one of the other bidders, <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/218c7352-0cef-4fe6-8e25-9036ef8db465\">Nile Misr<\/a>, to seek a downgrade itself. The court will also look at a USD 600 mn lawsuit filed by the Suez Canal Authority for damages against the shipowner on 29 May.<\/p>\n<p><strong>HAPPENING NOW-<\/strong> <strong>The House of Representatives <\/strong><strong>has given <\/strong><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.albawabhnews.com\/4348244\">final approval<\/a><\/strong><strong> to <\/strong><strong>amendments<\/strong><strong> to the 2015 Electricity Act <\/strong>to delay the Egyptian Electricity Transmission Company\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/839a6b22-6c3d-453a-93c1-77111ac82759\">planned split<\/a> from the Egyptian Electricity Holding Company (EEHC) to 2025 from 2023.
