The Sovereign Fund of Egypt (SFE), which is managing the sale, had <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/97d049e6-a61e-4b0c-889d-f141f384cee9\">previously been expected<\/a> to wrap it up in the first half of the year, according to previous statements by the fund\u2019s CEO Ayman Soliman. The report gave no reason for the delay; the SFE was not available for comment by dispatch time.<\/p>\n<p><strong>But that doesn\u2019t mean progress isn\u2019t being made: <\/strong>Potential buyer Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (Adnoc) has begun appointing advisors ahead of submitting an offer, sources said, though no further details were given on the size of the stake the company is targeting. Soliman had suggested <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/8bf2d27d-4b0d-4e69-9be1-fa611522c218\">last month<\/a> that up to 90% of the company could be up for sale through a private placement, with the SFE retaining a 10-20% stake.<\/p>\n<p><strong>This comes as other GCC players look to buy in,<\/strong> with reports earlier this month suggesting that state-owned <a href=\"https:\/\/www.enoc.com\/en\/\">Emirates National Oil Company<\/a> (ENOC) and Saudi <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aldrees.com\/english\/\">Aldrees Petroleum and Transport Services Co.<\/a> were also interested. Local players and franchisers are also looking to buy in, with reports that Wataniya is also <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/7cd40893-6a1e-4d00-975c-6fa551a0f8f3\">being courted<\/a> by Qalaa Holdings\u2019 Taqa Arabia.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Background: <\/strong>Wataniya is one of two companies that have been chosen to <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/14b94986-d461-4f36-ab26-cf9227098f74\">kickstart process led by the<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/14b94986-d461-4f36-ab26-cf9227098f74\">SFE<\/a> to sell stakes to the private sector in firms owned by the military\u2019s National Service Products Organization (NSPO).
