The law, which was ratified <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/f2fa1641-48dc-4615-8302-e5ae1fab6df6\">last summer<\/a>, is Egypt\u2019s version of the EU\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/gdpr-info.eu\/\">General Data Protection Regulation<\/a> (GDPR). It protects personal data \u2014 your name, address, or photo, to name a few examples \u2014 from unauthorized use and manipulation. When the bill passed the House last year, <a href=\"http:\/\/gate.ahram.org.eg\/News\/2375602.aspx\">a committee report<\/a> said it used the GDPR as its \u201cprimary benchmark.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Over 15 major data vendors operating in Egypt<\/strong> \u2014 including Google, Microsoft, Amazon, Vodafone, Facebook, Twitter, MasterCard, Uber and Careem \u2014 reportedly took part in drafting the suggestions.<\/p>\n<p><strong>What are the tech companies\u2019 proposals for the regs? <\/strong>Things they would like to see in the include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Setting a clear process for data owners to lodge complaints of misuse of their data;<\/li>\n<li>Giving organizations more flexibility to classify data by nature and importance when outlining in their privacy policies;<\/li>\n<li>Having a single licensing mechanism for consumer data-driven companies;<\/li>\n<li>Giving those organizations a wider timeframe to respond to privacy complaints;<\/li>\n<li>Requiring companies to have a dedicated data protection officer.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>WANT TO KNOW MORE ABOUT THE DATA PROTECTION ACT, <\/strong>courtesy of our friends at law firm Sharkawy and Sarhan? <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.press\/stories\/2019\/10\/02\/breaking-down-egypts-data-protection-act\/\">Click\/tap here for the breakdown<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>IN OTHER REGULATION NEWS- <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>New incentives for EVs, natgas-fueled cars: <\/strong>Importers of used electric and dual-fuel cars are getting a custom duties break of at least 10% on the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.investopedia.com\/terms\/f\/fob.asp\">FOB<\/a> price of their cars, the Finance Ministry said in <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mof.gov.eg\/Arabic\/MOFNews\/Media\/Pages\/release-1-3-2021.aspx\">a statement<\/a> this afternoon. The discounts will scale up based on how old the vehicle is, with 1-3 year old models given a base 10-30% haircut depending on the age. 3-7 year models will be eligible for a total discount of 35-50%, with a 5% discount on the FOB price for each year past the three-year mark, the ministry said. Not to get too technical, the FOB price is what the importer pays for the marine freight and insurance of the imported car.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Background: <\/strong>The move comes as part of <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/3c2a5ea6-252b-4010-886d-85aa37ba1b5a\">incentives<\/a> the government is laying out for domestic EVs assembly and <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.press\/hardhats\/feasible-plan-convert-vehicles-natgas-gasoline-national-scale\/\">a multi-year plan<\/a> to replace diesel- and gasoline-powered vehicles with cars that use natural gas or a mix of both.<\/p>\n<p><strong>CATCH UP QUICK- <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Egypt plans to get at least 2 mn more day laborers on the books by the end of 2021<\/strong> <strong>for <\/strong><strong>health insurance and financial support,<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/article\/idUSL5N2KY0M4\">Reuters<\/a> reported, quoting Manpower Ministry spokesman Haitham Saad El Din. Informal workers have been receiving EGP 500 monthly stipends since the pandemic broke, with the final installment under the one-year scheme <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/0901e93f-009c-4a22-b93f-7406f220c4cb\">due<\/a> this Sunday.
