Twelve candidates were competing for five seats on the board, three of whom will represent brokerages and asset managers, one will represent companies listed on the main exchange, and one for Nilex-listed firms. Data this week showed that US inflation surpassed all forecasts in June to <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/85ad95ec-cb81-4800-ba36-9772188907b4\">accelerate at its fastest pace<\/a> since 2008, increasing concerns that prices will rise still further in the months ahead and calling into question the Fed\u2019s \u201ctransitory\u201d hypothesis.<\/p>\n<p><strong>A policy change is \u201ca ways off\u201d:<\/strong> Speaking during a congressional hearing, Powell said that the Fed won\u2019t taper its bond-buying programme or raise interest rates until it sees \u201csubstantial further progress\u201d in the US inflation and employment targets, which he said remains \u201ca ways off.\u201d US interest rates are currently at near-zero and the Fed is buying bonds worth USD 120 bn each month to support the economy (and asset prices) through the pandemic \u2014 a huge stimulus program some worry is causing the economy to overheat.<\/p>\n<p><strong>A slight change of script on inflation:<\/strong> Powell said that he expects inflation to \u201cremain elevated in coming months before moderating.\u201d Earlier this year Fed officials were briefing that heightened inflation <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/business\/feds-bowman-bottlenecks-high-inflation-may-take-time-ease-2021-06-23\/\">could last for a few months<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The markets seem satisfied that the dove isn\u2019t about to turn hawk:<\/strong> US stocks <a href=\"https:\/\/finance.yahoo.com\/news\/asian-stocks-eye-mixed-start-221056114.html\">made slight<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/finance.yahoo.com\/news\/asian-stocks-eye-mixed-start-221056114.html\">gains<\/a> and bond yields fell during trading yesterday as investor concerns about how the Fed might react to rising inflation eased.
