<\/a> Two mn tourists visited Egypt during the first five months of this year<\/strong>, averaging 400k people per month, Tourism Minister Khaled El Enany said during a seminar last week, according to the local press<\/a>.<\/p>\n

This is almost 40% of the monthly figures we were getting before the pandemic:<\/strong> Egypt received just over 13 mn tourists in 2019, equating to almost 1.1 mn per month, generating USD 13 bn<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Egypt is targeting <\/strong>8 mn visitors and USD 8 bn in revenues<\/a><\/strong><\/sup> by the end of the year<\/strong>, and believes it could return to pre-covid numbers as early as fall 2022<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Ramping up efforts to lure in more tourists: <\/strong>The ministry has said it will invest USD 90 mn in a new three-year international tourism promotion campaign<\/strong>, which is reportedly expected to launch this fall<\/a>, in a bid to ramp up post-covid business. The potential return of direct <\/strong>flights from Russia<\/a><\/strong> to Red Sea resorts<\/strong> this month could also help us reach the more ambitious targets.<\/p>\n
