We\u2019re almost at the weekend, and diplomacy dominates the press, the airwaves, and our issue today. <\/strong>We have the updates on Palestine, GERD, and Qatar, but first:<\/p>\n<p><strong>THE BIG STORY HERE AT HOME- Egypt looks set to unlock the <\/strong><strong>USD 1.6 bn<\/strong><strong> third and final tranche <\/strong><strong>of its USD 5.2 bn IMF <\/strong><strong>standby loan<\/strong> after reaching a staff-level agreement with the fund. We have chapter and verse in this morning\u2019s news well, below.<\/p>\n<p><strong>US Secretary of State Antony Blinken is due in town today<\/strong>, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mena.org.eg\/news\/dbcall\/table\/textnews\/id\/8975325\">state-run news agency MENA<\/a>. Blinken is set to meet with Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry, MENA confirms, but we expect a sit-down with President Abdel Fattah El Sisi will also be on his agenda. Blinken was most recently in Jerusalem and Ramallah (we have more on his visit in Around the World, below) and will head to Jordan after Cairo to round off his peacebuilding trip.<\/p>\n<p><strong>THE BIG STORIES ABROAD THIS MORNING- No single story dominates international headlines, <\/strong>but the US\u2019 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ft.com\/content\/a4bfb330-3a1e-4288-84b6-c6703c06f77d\">renewed calls for an investigation<\/a> into whether covid-19 could have leaked from a Wuhan lab, as well as coverage of memorials and marches marking<a href=\"https:\/\/edition.cnn.com\/2021\/05\/25\/us\/george-floyd-death-anniversary\/index.html\">a year since the death of George Floyd<\/a> at the hands of police officers made the front pages. Other news of note:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Amazon is being sued for violating Washington\u2019s competition laws <\/strong>by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ft.com\/content\/627831a7-529e-4b84-921a-6eb5ed234fed\">restricting sellers<\/a> from listing products cheaper on other platforms.<\/li>\n<li><strong>European airlines are <\/strong><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/world\/europe\/airlines-shun-belarus-opposition-leader-says-journalist-tortured-2021-05-25\/\">rerouting to avoid Belarus\u2019 airspace<\/a><\/strong> following outrage at the forced landing of a plane in Minsk and the arrest of an opposition journalist on board.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>ALSO HAPPENING TODAY-<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Budget week<\/strong><sup><\/sup><strong> rolls on in parliament: <\/strong>The House will continue committee-level discussions of allocations in the state\u2019s FY2021-2022 budget for institutions including the Higher Education Ministry and its agencies, the National Railways Authority, the National Tunnels Authority, the General Authority for Planning Transportation Projects, the National Transport Institute, and the New Urban Communities Authority. The House CIT Committee signed off yesterday on the spending plan for the National Telecommunications Regulatory Authority, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/bit.ly\/3fJoDOu\">Youm7<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Ther<\/strong><strong>e\u2019s more coming on Thursday:<\/strong> The House Healthcare Committee is due to discuss the budgets for the General Authority for Healthcare; the Universal Healthcare Ins. Authority; the Health Ins. Organization; and the General Authority for Healthcare, Accreditation, and Regulation, according to parliament\u2019s schedule.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The EU is hosting a webinar at 10 am today to discuss the outcomes of its <\/strong><strong>Inclusive Economic Growth Program in Egypt,<\/strong> which aimed to support SMEs and promote inclusive growth, according to a <a href=\"https:\/\/ent.news\/2021\/5\/PRESS-RELEASE-Webinar-Promoting-Inclusive-Economic-Growth-in-Egypt.pdf\">press release (pdf)<\/a>.
