<\/a> Naguib Sawiris is planning to take part in Egypt's ongoing gold exploration t<\/strong>ender<\/strong>, the bn\u2019aire said at a conference yesterday, the local press<\/a> reports. Sawiris\u2019 La Mancha Holding is the largest shareholder in Toronto-based Endeavour Mining<\/a>, and also holds an almost 35% stake<\/a> in Altus strategies, whose subsidiary Akh Gold landed four gold exploration licenses<\/a> for nine Eastern Desert Blocks in a tender launched last year<\/a>. La Mancha\u2019s Endeavour was not among the companies the ministry said were awarded blocks, despite having reportedly made a bid<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Naguib has had his eye on gold mining in Egypt for some time now:<\/strong> Sawiris had expressed his interest<\/a> in the government\u2019s international gold mining tenders and said recent amendments to the Mineral Resources Act were \u201cmore favorable and more realistic and would attract foreign investments to the sector.\u201d<\/p>\n

He\u2019ll have another two months to get a bid together:<\/strong> The deadline to submit bids in the ongoing round was recently extended<\/a> to 15 May, after having originally been planned for 15 March.<\/p>\n

Sawiris has been making moves elsewhere on the continent:<\/strong> Endeavour in February finalized the takeover of<\/a> Senegal and Burkina Faso-focused Teranga Gold for almost USD 1.9 bn<\/a> \u2014 an acquisition that created one of West Africa\u2019s 10 largest gold producers.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
