Increased liquidity and positive earnings prospects are likely to lead to a <\/strong>\u201cbuyback binge,\u201d<\/strong> as companies with strong, liquid balance sheets look to prop up their stock prices following a plunge in buybacks in 2020, analysts tell Bloomberg<\/a>. Buybacks among US companies surged 28% q-o-q in 4Q2020 to hit USD 120 bn in a spree that saw more than half of S&P 500 companies repurchasing stock for the first time since the covid crisis hit. \u201cWhen you see cashflow accelerate, you see buybacks follow shortly thereafter,\u201d said Gina Martin Adams, chief equity strategist for Bloomberg Intelligence.<\/p>\n
