<\/a> Ethiopia is ready to return to the negotiating table with Egypt and Sudan \u2014 just<\/strong> not with international mediators.<\/strong> Addis Ababa \u201cbelieves in resolving African problems by Africans,\u201d and wants the African Union to continue with its sponsorship of the stalled talks over the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD), Ethiopia\u2019s Foreign Ministry spokesperson Dina Mufti said yesterday, according to the Ethiopian News agency<\/a>. Mufti\u2019s statement comes in response to Sudan\u2019s formal request<\/a> \u2014 which he says Ethiopia wasn\u2019t officially informed of \u2014 to bring in the EU, US, UN, and African Union to help mediate an agreement on the dam\u2019s filing and operation.<\/p>\n

The proposal came as talks <\/strong>have been floundering<\/a><\/strong> since last year <\/strong>after Ethiopia, Egypt and Sudan were unable to reach<\/a> a binding agreement on the GERD. The Associated Press<\/a> also took note of Mufti\u2019s statement.<\/p>\n
