Emad Barsoum tells us this morning that his <strong>Ezdehar is aiming for first close by mid-year on its next USD 180-200 mn SME fund<\/strong> \u2014 and is looking at raising an impact investing fund. Blue-chip limited partners are already on board. Meanwhile, <strong>last night\u2019s Columbia webinar on venture capital and entrepreneurism in Egypt<\/strong> points out that as fast as our VC industry has grown, we have plenty of room left to run \u2014 and in which to innovate. We have chapter and verse on both stories in this morning\u2019s news well.<\/p>\n<p><a class=\"content-anchor\" id=\"tldr-story-07\"><\/a> <strong>*** CATCH UP QUICK-<\/strong> The top stories from yesterday\u2019s edition of EnterprisePM:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>There appears to be a <\/strong><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/da0d6b7d-f168-4ce8-9ab7-fc3e80efa7d2\">bidding war<\/a><\/strong><strong> in the red-hot healthcare sector<\/strong>, with Tawasol Holdings seeking full ownership of Alexandria Medical Services, in which it already owns a 25.92% stake.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Mitsubishi Motors is reportedly <\/strong><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/5bc3747f-5f1c-449d-bcfb-821e5eaf70b8\">planning<\/a><\/strong><strong> to start assembling cars in Egypt<\/strong> using a Nissan-owned plant.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Orascom Investment Holding was overbought and Orascom Financial Holding <\/strong><strong>was oversold<\/strong> as their shares <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/d6cc533a-cef8-46b2-b641-378d272ea0dd\">resumed trading<\/a> after their horizontal demerger.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>NICE NEWS on which to end the week: <\/strong><strong>Egypt had the third-fastest rate of improvement in <\/strong><strong>digital inclusion last year<\/strong>, rising two spots to 50 (from 52 in 2017) in management consultancy Roland Berger\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/ent.news\/2021\/2\/roland_berger_sea_digital_inclusion.pdf\">Digital Inclusion Index (pdf)<\/a>. Our score jumped eight points thanks to \u201csignificant infrastructure improvements in mobile data availability and coverage,\u201d the report says. The two top improvers were Myanmar and Vietnam.<\/p>\n<p><strong>CLARIFICATION on a story we picked up on Tuesday afternoon: The former owners of <\/strong><strong>Adwia Pharma are getting into toll manufacturing<\/strong>, not fully re-entering the market, as we reported. A toll manufacturer typically takes in raw material or semi-finished goods from a third party and uses its facilities to make a product on contract. Toll manufacturers typically do not make own-brand products, engage in sales and marketing, or carry out research and development. An industry source tells us that Dawana is 18 months or more out from obtaining licenses and starting production. <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/9141dcc0-3f6c-42e2-9c70-a447784a3d6e\">The story has been updated on our website<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>THE BIG STORY ABROAD this morning: <\/strong>\u201c<strong>Facebook has defied Australia\u2019s push to make <\/strong><strong>Big Tech pay for news by banning the sharing of content on its platform in the country<\/strong>, the most far-reaching restrictions it has ever placed on publishers in any part of the world,\u201d the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ft.com\/content\/cec5d055-c2d1-4d5f-a392-a6343beb0b01\">Financial Times<\/a> reports. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/article\/us-australia-media-facebook\/facebook-news-goes-dark-in-australia-as-content-spat-escalates-idUSKBN2AI02A\">Reuters is also leading with the story<\/a>, while the Wall Street Journal trumpets that the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/articles\/us-economy-january-retail-sales-coronavirus-recovery-11613503145?mod=hp_lead_pos1\">economic recovery is broadening in the US<\/a> as retail spending rebounds. Meanwhile, mns are still without power as another winter storm sweeps into parts of the US. France\u2019s Figaro, meanwhile, notes that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lefigaro.fr\/international\/apres-trump-biden-poursuit-le-bras-de-fer-avec-la-chine-20210217\">Biden is pursuing \u201ciron fist\u201d diplomacy toward Beijing<\/a> in a clear break with his predecessor.<\/p>\n<p><strong>PSA- The weather is looking much better today <\/strong>after heavy winds died down overnight.
