We have chapter and verse in this morning\u2019s Blackboard as well as in Last Night\u2019s Talk Shows, including coverage of Education Minister Tarek Shawki\u2019s press conference yesterday and a statement by President Abdel Fattah El Sisi.<\/p>\n<p><strong>THE BIG STORY globally this morning: <\/strong>Bupkis. It\u2019s crickets this AM. Everyone in the US of A has a Trump acquittal hangover and markets are closed today \u2014 15 February is a federal holiday in observance of Presidents\u2019 Day in the US, so the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nyse.com\/markets\/hours-calendars\">NYSE<\/a> and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nasdaqtrader.com\/Trader.aspx?id=Calendar\">Nasdaq<\/a> are closed. Much of Canada is boarded up today in observance of Family Day.<\/p>\n<p><a class=\"content-anchor\" id=\"tldr-story-07\"><\/a> <strong>CATCH UP QUICK<\/strong><strong>-<\/strong> Missed yesterday\u2019s EnterprisePM? These were the big stories:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>The guys who brought you Prime Medical and Prime Speed are getting into finance: <\/strong>Aton Holding <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/53e6c5c8-cff2-4896-95bd-1ee404c03c68\">acquired Pharos Asset Management<\/a> and its Pharos Fund I back in mid-January for an undisclosed amount, Mostafa Attia, managing director of Pharos Asset Management and a founder at Aton, told us.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Payments firm Ebtikar has started its march toward an IPO<\/strong>, <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/914d20b0-46d1-4bb2-baea-2a99caf0a815\">transferring the shares<\/a> of Tamweel Holding to a new parent company as part of a plan to spin off activities not related to e-payments, Ebtikar owners B Investments and MM Group said.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Egypt has weathered the worst of the pandemic, but authorities <\/strong><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/9d27de3a-a0bd-44b8-9be8-cd0c5e11a383\">must now push on with \u201cdeep\u201d structural reforms<\/a><\/strong> to empower the private sector, the Institute of International Finance said in a report.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>FOLLOWUP on the Aton \/ Pharos story: <\/strong>Pharos\u2019 Elwy Taymour confirms that the asset management business, including the company itself and the funds it controlled, were both on the auction block. \u201cThis furthers what we were doing in exiting the investment banking business overall and pivoting toward fintech,\u201d he said. \u201cThis was the final part of the puzzle, and with the asset management sale, we\u2019re now out of the investment banking business overall. <a href=\"https:\/\/kashat.com.eg\/en\/\">Kashat<\/a> is the flagship of our expansion into fintech and there\u2019s more to come.\u201d Our friend <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/0cac6cd8-279a-4000-a89a-42a63bd2685e\">Karim Nour joined Kashat as co-founder last fall<\/a>; the outfit launched its <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/d0e1e660-085f-4d96-bc99-eb2670afa9e2\">first national nano-credit campaign<\/a> last month.<\/p>\n<p><strong>WHAT\u2019S HAPPENING TODAY-<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>The House of Representatives is catching up today and tomorrow on bills and reports <\/strong><strong>that were originally on its agenda for yesterday.<\/strong> These include the Senate\u2019s bylaws and a bill that would grant an income tax break to investors on interest earned from bonds issued abroad. A committee report on Information Minister Osama Heikal\u2019s policy statement was also scheduled for yesterday but appears to have <a href=\"http:\/\/english.ahram.org.eg\/NewsContent\/1\/64\/404025\/Egypt\/Politics-\/Egypts-parliament-approves-information-ministers-r.aspx\">been postponed<\/a> as the minister asked for time to prepare his defense.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Justice Minister Omar Marwan is also set to deliver his address<\/strong> to parliament tomorrow.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Shiny gauge to watch this morning #1: <\/strong>Oil rose overnight to hit its highest level in more than a year on \u201cfears of fresh Middle East tensions,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/article\/us-global-oil\/oil-rises-on-fears-of-heightened-tensions-in-middle-east-idUSKBN2AF013\">Reuters<\/a> suggests. Or maybe because \u2026 traders like a rally? And are buying into the climate-destroying commodity after it broke the somehow psychologically important USD 60 \/ bbl barrier last week?<\/p>\n<p><strong>Shiny gauge to watch this morning #2: <\/strong>You know things are getting frothy with BTC when <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2021-02-14\/bitcoin-s-epic-run-is-winning-more-attention-from-wall-street?srnd=premium-middle-east&sref=mmeFTDW1\">Bloomberg<\/a> starts discussing how a unit of Morgan Stanley is debating whether to take a position. The price of <strong>BTC is on the verge of hitting USD 50k for the first time <\/strong>and Canada has just become the host of the world\u2019s <strong>first BTC exchange-traded fund <\/strong>ETF provider Purpose Investments said in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.purposeinvest.com\/thoughtful\/purpose-investments-cleared-to-launch-first-bitcoin-etf-in-the-world\">a statement<\/a>. \u201cThe ETF will be the first in the world to invest directly in physically settled Bitcoin, not derivatives,\u201d and will trade on the Toronto stock exchange under the ticker BTCC, the company said. <strong>What could go wrong? <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>PSA- A cold front is set to move in tonight<\/strong>, blanketing Cairo and Alexandria with cold temperatures and likely some rain for the next several days. Our favourite weather app warns us to expect a low of 14\u00b0C tomorrow and 12\u00b0C on Wednesday in the capital city.
