<\/a> The big business-relevant story on the airwaves last night was the <\/strong>arrest<\/a><\/strong> of a <\/strong>criminal gang charged with bilking some EGP 2mn from citizens in a bank fraud scam <\/strong>that made headlines last week. Fraudsters had falsely posed as bank staff and tricked clients into divulging sensitive information over the phone, including PINs and passwords, under the pretense that the information would be used to transfer a sum the clients had won in a randomised lottery. The fraudsters then used the accounts to purchase online gaming tokens, which they then resold, pocketing the sums in their digital wallets.<\/p>\n

The nation\u2019s banks have this month been calling on clients to not disclose any banking sign-in details with anyone<\/strong>, with state-owned Banque Misr saying last week<\/a> that 13 incidents of fraud had been detected. Al Hayah Al Youm (watch, runtime: 5:50<\/a>) and Ala Mas\u2019ouleety (watch, runtime: 4:24<\/a>) are among those who had coverage.<\/p>\n

Also in the limelight on last night\u2019s talk shows: The first batch of incoming first year <\/strong>university <\/strong>students <\/strong>learned yesterday whether they would get their desired undergraduate majors. And it looks like it will be easier to get into the faculties of their choice<\/strong>, with the cutoff for admission to medical school (a perennial indicator of grade inflation in Thanaweya Amma) falling to 92% this year.
