The government has handed out a total of 11 mn covid shots since it started its<\/strong> vaccination program in January<\/strong>, Health Ministry Hala Zayed said<\/a> during a cabinet meeting yesterday. The minister didn\u2019t disclose how many people have now been fully vaccinated and how many have received the first dose.<\/p>\n

In detail:<\/strong> More than 2 mn covid vaccines have been distributed to public sector administrative workers, including some 600k employees in the Education Ministry who received jabs during the past two weeks, Zayed said. Half a mn doses have been delivered for universities, and another 500k others will be delivered next week, she said. Higher Education Minister Khaled Abdel Ghaffar said during the meeting<\/a> that 154.5k doses had been administered at university vaccine centers by Tuesday, 80% of which were first doses.<\/p>\n

New vaccination targets:<\/strong> The government \u2014 which recently made vaccination compulsory<\/a> for education, health and administrative workers \u2014 last month announced ambitious targets<\/a> to hand at least one dose of a vaccine to some 35 mn people over the coming three months. The plan would see more than half of the 60 mn people eligible for vaccination receive a shot.<\/p>\n

The Health Ministry <\/strong>reported<\/a><\/strong> 399 new covid-19 infections yesterday<\/strong>, up from 378 the day before. Egypt has now disclosed a total of 291,172 confirmed cases of covid-19.
