<\/a> Four Egyptian startups secured USD 125k each in seed funding by US accelerator<\/strong> Y Combinator<\/a><\/strong>, Magnitt<\/a> reports. The funding came either following the companies closing pre-seed rounds, or as boosters to companies that are looking to expand and complete acquisitions.<\/p>\n

The startups: <\/strong>The Egyptian startups include Cairo-based delivery service ShipBlu<\/a>, ins. marketplace Amenli<\/a>, SaaS startup Pylon<\/a> and online auto-marketplace Odiggo<\/a>, which had secured USD 2.2 mn<\/a> in seed financing from Y Combinator just last month. An additional two startups from Morocco, the B2B e-commerce platform for FMCG products, Chari<\/a>, and supply-chain platform Freterium<\/a> also received funding.<\/p>\n

The funding came as part of <\/strong>Y Combinator\u2019s<\/strong> second cycle of the year, which took place from June to August. <\/strong>The company runs two annual funding cycles over a period of three months, during which startup founders meet with partners and present their project to a group of investors. The seed accelerator company then takes small stakes in many of the startups. This year\u2019s summer batch included 377 startups from 47 countries, with a record of 15 African<\/a>companies.<\/p>\n

Over the first half of the year Egyptian startups <\/strong>landed USD 194 mn<\/a><\/strong> in venture capital finance<\/strong>, which represented 26% of all MENA fundraising during the half. The 194 mn figure was led by a USD 42 mn contribution<\/a> to Egyptian digital trucking platform Trella.<\/p>\n

ALSO FROM PLANET STARTUP-<\/strong> Proptech startup Nawy will launch new rental <\/strong>services by 2022, <\/strong>as part of its plans to expand into the brokerage market, co-founder Mostafa El Beltagy told Hapi Journal<\/a>. The company\u2019s eventual expansion plans include entering Saudi Arabia, UAE, and South Africa.
