We have a ton of news to get through before we can shift our brains into something approximating neutral, so as we did this morning, let\u2019s jump straight in:<\/p>\n<p><strong>THE BIG STORIES TODAY-<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a class=\"content-anchor\" id=\"tldr-story-01\"><\/a> <strong>#1- OC-led consortium lands new Ras Ghareb wind farm contract:<\/strong> An Orascom Construction-Toyota Tsusho-Engie consortium will develop, construct and operate a 500 MW Ras Ghareb wind farm on a <a href=\"https:\/\/ent.news\/2021\/10\/OC-Consortium-to-Develop-a-500-MW-Build-Own-Operate-Wind-Farm-in-Egypt.pdf\">20-year contract (pdf)<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>#2- SFE, Fertiglobe, Scatec agree on green hydrogen plant:<\/strong> Norwegian solar company Scatec has <a href=\"https:\/\/renews.biz\/72906\/scatec-to-build-green-hydrogen-project-in-egypt\/\">entered an agreement<\/a> with the Sovereign Fund of Egypt and Nassef Sawiris-backed Fertiglobe to develop a new 50-100 MW green hydrogen plant in Ain Sokhna.<\/p>\n<p><strong>#3- Egytrans pulls the brake on HAUH takeover offer:<\/strong> Egytrans is \u201cno longer considering\u201d an offer from Hassan Allam Utilities Holding to acquire a controlling stake in the company after the two sides apparently <a href=\"https:\/\/ent.news\/2021\/10\/EGYtrans-14-10-2021.pdf\">failed to agree on a fair value (pdf)<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>#4- Korea is lining up what seems to be a multi-bn USD infrastructure and defense sale to <\/strong><strong>Egypt. <\/strong>Korean media report (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.mk.co.kr\/news\/politics\/view\/2021\/10\/962394\/\">here<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gukjenews.com\/news\/articleView.html?idxno=2326484\">here<\/a>) that National Assembly Speaker Park Byeong-seok discussed with President Abdel Fattah El Sisi this week a package of contracts that could include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A shipyard construction contract in the Suez Canal area for Samsung Heavy Industries;<\/li>\n<li>An additional order from the Cairo Metro for Hyundai Rotem;<\/li>\n<li>Unspecified technical support for the Dabaa nuclear power plant that\u2019s now on the drawing board;<\/li>\n<li>The sale of Korea\u2019s self-propelled K9 Thunder howitzer to the Egyptian Armed Forces.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>#5- Egypt\u2019s inclusion in JPMorgan\u2019s EM government bond index could drive inflows <\/strong><strong>worth USD 1 bn to Egypt\u2019s local currency bond<\/strong><strong> markets<\/strong>, Finance Minister Mohamed Maait said in a <a href=\"https:\/\/bit.ly\/3mLENu8\">statement<\/a> this morning. This is a more conservative figure than the USD 1.4-2.2 bn of passive inflows research analysts at JPMorgan <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/ea858526-5700-49cf-9a6c-4bb9a7b54d2a\">have previously estimated<\/a> could be generated from being included in the index. Retail investors have until Sunday to get their orders in.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>HAPPENING NOW-<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Egypt and Greece are <\/strong><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/5d58a836-bff9-4fc9-9db3-c2828087edec\">set to sign today<\/a><\/strong><strong> an agreement to build a subsea cable<\/strong> through which Egypt will export power to Greece. The pact is part of the EuroAfrica Interconnector project, which is set to link the electricity grids of Egypt, Greece, and Cyprus.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Four Egyptian security service officials are standing trial in absentia today on charges <\/strong><strong>stemming from the <\/strong><strong>murder of Italian graduate student Giulio Regeni. <\/strong>The Regeni killing has been a sore spot in Egypt-Italy relations since 2016. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/world\/europe\/italian-prosecutors-ask-judge-try-egyptian-officers-over-regeni-murder-2021-05-25\/\">Reuters<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dw.com\/en\/egyptians-stand-trial-over-murder-of-italian-student-in-cairo\/a-59498732\">Deutsche Welle<\/a> have the story.<\/p>\n<p><strong>President Abdel Fattah El Sisi spoke to Prime Minister Boris Johnson ahead of the<\/strong><strong> upcoming COP26 summit<\/strong>, according to a release from the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/news\/pm-call-with-president-abdel-fattah-al-sisi-of-egypt-14-october-2021\">UK government<\/a>. After vowing that the two countries would work together to make the event a success, Johnson urged Cairo to commit to halting new use of coal and come forward with a Nationally Determined Contribution to cut emissions. The two leaders also discussed defense and security cooperation as well as Libya\u2019s elections.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Just in time for the climate change conference, demand for fossil fuels is looking<\/strong><strong> to soar<\/strong>, with the International Energy Agency saying in its monthly market report that the natural gas and coal shortages will cause manufacturers to switch to oil, pushing up prices. The agency predicts that the redirected demand could translate into as much as 500k bbl\/d through 1Q2022, according to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/articles\/gas-shortage-forces-power-plants-to-switch-to-oil-boosting-demand-11634200084?mod=hp_lead_pos1\">Wall Street Journal<\/a>.
